Dealing with the Police
Hello Everyone,
2nd post here and I must say what a great community on these forums, so much knowledge & wisdom....I'm learning lots about my new Z!
Coming from owning 2 pick up trucks and a grandpa Buick I have never owned a sports car before. Just wanted to hear from the community your thoughts on driving the Z or G and dealing with police. Clearly you break the law then your asking for it but have many of you found that your car gets singled out even if your not breaking the law? Ride checks those sorts of things?
I have a blue Z with white racing striped down it, people keep telling me i'm a target but if I'm not breaking the law then there is no reason for me to be a target.

My car is an attention ***** and let me tell you ive have police, sherif, state and highway patrol ride behing beside and all over me, not a single ticket. The whole "sport car are cops magnet thing" is pure bs.
Yea youll stick out from the crowd, but so does the camry doing 15 over. At the end of the day, i do 5 over and have yet to have an issue in any of my sport/modified cars.

Profiling, part of the job.
Ask your self on a Saturday night, you see a mom with 3 kids in a mini van in a parking lot. And a sports car with 4 teens.
Which are you going to keep a watchful eye on for safety? And which are you going to keep a watchful eye on for trouble?
It's how the human mind works. It's how most primal brains work because it's adaptive.

Don't drive like an *******, and if you do get pulled over, be polite, respectful, and courteous. Turn off the engine, place your keys on the dash, roll down the windows, turn on the interior light, and put your hands on the top part of the wheel. Bad attitude = ticket, every time. Cops have better things to do, so respect their time and their responsibilities.

Never had an issue, bought the car when I was 30. Don't drive like an idiot, don't hang out with street ricers, don't go to places the street ricers go, and don't be a street ricer.you will not have a problem

I also own a blue 350z as well and have yet to be pulled over. I’m only 22 and I do get very strange looks from cops since it looks like I could be 16. I think as long as you don’t do anything stupid, or speed you’ll be fine. I’ve owned the car for a few weeks now and haven’t had any issues yet. I know it’s just a matter of time before I’ll get pulled over, but I don’t do anything stupid on the streets. I just take my car out to the mountains on the weekends. I don’t believe owning a sports car = more tickets. I think that part is just ******** to me honestly. People who say owning a sports car = more tickets, is clearly the type of person who drives crazy or speeds on the road.

My brother in law is a cop, he told me to take it easy cus the cops will watch.
Don't be a cowboy. Go to some autox's, it'll get the need for speed out of you and be humbling at the same time.

Theme: respect garners mutual respect. Sometimes it doesn't work because the officer is/was having a bad day but generally speaking, if yer cool, they'll be cool.
So long as you weren't doing 75 down a residential street.

I guess I'll admit it.... nearly 17 years ago, got pulled over doing 90+ up a mountain road in my E55 (well, in a two lane opening heading somewhere near Nevada City to pass slow traffic). Bad thing was I had my ex- and two adolescent kids asleep in the back seat.
I was fortunate to have been given a warning-only.
But, like the time in the '80s where I had been drinking enough at a wedding to NOT remember the drive home from Palo Alto to San Francisco that night, I learned my lessons.
I do NOT condone drinking and driving AND I stay within 10-15% of the freeway speed limits, almost always.
Even the time last week when I got on the freeway very quickly and moved a couple lanes over and this guy in a Tesla S took issue with my "mere Mercedes" (or something, cuz I wasn't even near him) and felt he HAD to pass me at 95 or so. I just watched and laughed like hell seeing him get pulled over a couple miles down the road. Snort.... too mush "High-T"?

As a stupid kid I was going pretty fast in my old GT pony. I use to gun it so I could coast up the big hill and roll the the light. Had it down pretty well lol
But right before the light before the hill is when you have to punch it. So you just start to speed in the intersection.
Long story short there was a Moro cop at that intersection one day. Chased me down but I saw his lights at the bottom of the hill when I hit the top so I pulled over turned my car off and waited.
He comes up and rips me out of the car, throws me on the ground and cuffs me. He then tells me to give him a reason to stay out of jail that night. I told him I have no excuse you caught me speeding I will not lie to you sir. I accept responsibility.
While I'm in cuffs he said that's not good enough and goes to my passenger (gf at the time) and then comes back and gives me a speech about I could kill her me and someone else and asks for my new excuse. I told him again your going to do what your going to do. I fckd up and am not going to lie to you. I accept I was in the wrong and respect what ever you decide to do.
I don't think he knew how to act and was a little works up so he wrote me a ticket and told me he will see me in court. Wrote going 95 in a 45 (not possible with that heavy car maybe 65 in a 45 but still)
Ticket never shows up in the system. I probably could have gotten a point on my record for that but because I was not a little dck head I feel he just threw the ticket out.
I've been pulled over tons of other times for less but as long as you act like and adult, treat them like a human being most actually tend to be cool and I usually end up having a convo or shooting the sht with them before we go on our ways. Not hard to treat them with respite too and just accept when you fckd up if you are in the wrong.
At least in my case it works out better for everyone.
Only one cop was a dck and wrote me for a broken blinker on my sport bike like 3 weeks after my crash. He was just being a douche tho. I wasn't even speeding or doing anything just sitting at the light. he just wanted to write me up for the blinker as soon as he spotted it and got me on a 3 blinker technicality when I had 2 working and even told him I could just use my hands...

#2 most ticketed car.
Your not automatically a target if you are obeying the law but its inevitable that you'll be watched/profiled. Like everybody said, respect and politeness tend to go a long way.

I make it a habit to follow the posted speed limits. I dont usually worry about getting pulled over. Car sticks out like a sore thumb. I'm not going to get away with anything and im aware of that...
On a side note I have been pulled over many times in my many years of driving, its never a great time.

So I think it's mod what's done with them and how they are used more than just the looks of it.
Just like mustangs being notorious for crashing. Not fords fault it's the idiots that buy and drive them.

Eh, depends entirely upon your demeanor and the LEOs at the time of the stop. Got pulled a few months ago for doing 80/50. Got off with a simple warning and a "Have a nice night."
However, a few years back I sped up to pass a slower moving vehicle and got pulled for reckless driving and was issued a $500 citation.
