Default Former lurker, now Z owner

We brought home our find - a 2005 350Z with 6spd manual, black on black cloth, and a tick under 125k miles - this past weekend. It had sat for about 2.5 years before we picked it up, but ran when parked (the previous owner bought a new car with better handling for winter driving and stopped driving the Z altogether).

It did get synthetic oil changes its whole life. So, after a quick lookover and an overnight charge on the battery, it started right up. There's an exhaust leak I have to track down, but no leaks are apparent. We'll next spend some time cleaning it inside and out.

I've been lurking here a bit, reading through the FAQs and DIYs and gathering thoughts on how to proceed with this project. It's still in stock form - I think we'll drive it as-is for a while before deciding if we want to make any upgrades. As this has the base audio system, one thing I know I'll tackle is some tasteful upgrades to the sound system, though.

This is our first Nissan, but not our first project car. I've mainly had (and still do) VWs and Volvos, with the occassional Dodge truck thrown in for towing duties. The VWs and Volvos can be particular about what power steering fluid and coolant is used, so I stopped by a local Nissan dealer over lunch and picked up a gallon of coolant and pint of steering fluid, for now.

I also recently picked up my first Nissan, which is also a project 350z that's been sitting around quite some time and needs some maintenance and tasteful upgrades. Good luck with your project!

Enjoy

Congrats on the new purchase. If you work on VWs for fun, your new Nissan will be a cakewalk.

Installed the Z1 brake brace this morning and took her out for a test drive. I would say, definitely firmer, but only subtly so. Some things you do have a "wow" effect others are subtle but there. This one is subtle I would say. Worth the money as it was not expensive and easy to install. Ready to get the Brembo's on soon.

That brace is one of the mods I'm considering - thanks for posting your impression of it.

I haven't gotten to my Z this Winter, yet. I have an OEM exhaust that I need to put on (from the manifold back), Nismo shocks/springs, and audio upgrades - but other projects get pushed ahead of it. I hope to start on it before the weather really gets warm around here
