Who's Blown Their Engine?

the reason i ask is because i keep seein supercharger/turbo guys blowing theirs, but no nitrous users. i remember that guy blowin his with a 375 shot; duh. anybody else though? i always thought the 2 ways were equally risky, but now i'm starting to think nitrous is safer. pretty cool, if u ask me, since n2o is a lot cheaper.

I myself have not read of any. One things for sure. It's a lot less complicated than other means of forced induction. I am leaning toward this and am currently about 90% sure I will end up going this route. I considered SC and Turbos but this looks like the route I am going.

the only thing i'm worried about is hidin the bottle. i almost have to get one and play around with it.

mrtomcat Dec 12, 2004 04:34 PM

I used to run nitrous on my celica (75 shot) always heard how dangerous it was....I didn't have any issues at all, easy, install, easy maintenance. Filling up the bottle get expensive though.

I later replaced the nitrous with a turbo and the engine went bye bye after a few months...

if you follow all the safety steps I think nitrous is the safer choice.

i had a bottle in my old car ('00 si), and i really want the juice again. i'm just a little more anal about this car than the civ, so i want the install to b perfect. need to figure out a good hidin spot.

mrtomcat Dec 13, 2004 01:15 PM

same here, I'm waiting till after my first maintenance and this time I'll avoid all the little compromises from the first time.
It' seems to be very straight forward on the Z though, I just can't find a decent location for the bottle. The Spare tire location is great but that means you're without a spare and I don't like getting stranded somewhere...
Other than that I'm pretty much set to go

TheBigShow Dec 13, 2004 03:20 PM

i have my spare out already, so i can accept that. the one thing i am not ready to give up would b haulin stuff around. i still do a little bit, and i'm not sure how well the bottle would support weight. dunno.

mrtomcat Dec 13, 2004 06:58 PM

build a protective box around the bottle. I did that on my other car. Because I did not want to loose the whole trunk area for one little bottle.

here's a pic:

Definition of Blown?

I've twisted my crank, bent a rod, blew both heads, and burnt valves three times. (gone internal 4 times) I'm now waiting on a upper timing chain that I found was damaged when I went in to replace a burnt valve 2 weeks ago. The good news- never threw a rod thru the block.

Dammmmmm

And this is at what size shot?

mjedens Dec 15, 2004 02:28 AM

Between 150 & 225. In every case it was due to some "screw up" on my part. I will not hesitate to go at it again.

TheBigShow Dec 15, 2004 04:51 AM

doesn't sound like my 75 shot will b much of a problem then :) .

mjedens Dec 15, 2004 05:02 AM

In a couple cases I would have still had the problem with only a 75 shot. Just don't take shortcuts and follow all instructions.

TheBigShow Dec 15, 2004 08:55 AM

what happened?

Nastyboy Dec 15, 2004 10:37 AM

Hmm, that's kinda odd. I've been running 125shot for the past 28K miles, and still no problem *knock on wood*

imcool Dec 16, 2004 10:35 AM

I had a 130 shot to the wheels 2 step colder plugs and i blew my motor

TheBigShow Dec 16, 2004 10:42 AM

what was the problem?

imcool Dec 16, 2004 12:14 PM

wish i new but what i do know is nissan fixed it

ChromiumBlue Jan 3, 2005 08:18 AM

for how much?

Poptarts Jan 5, 2005 05:07 PM

so basically its safe to run 125 with what "proper safety precautions"? Im taking to a shop to have it done but dont want to be screwed in the aspect of not knowing what needs to be done first.
