Spdu4ia's Nitrous thread (pics)

Ok guys (and girls), i've had a few requests for this so i figured i would do a write up with mucho pics. Keep in mind i did not take pics throughout the install so these are completed pics and i WILL forget something so feel free to ask questions.

List:

-ZEX wet nitrous kit (set at 75 shot)
-ZEX nitrous pressure guage
-NGK 1 stage colder plug LFR6A-11 (Sparkplugs.com)
-MSD digital window switch (was on backorder forever)
-Dynotune dual purge valve
-JEGS fuel pressure guage (mounted to custom fittings)
-multiple parts from the HOME DEPOT (god i love that place)

First off i decided after talking with MANY people (including ZEX,nitrous express, NOS) that mounting the bottle in a horrizontal possition was not optimal but would still work for my purpose (lets face it ... i'm not that hardcore). the internal pick-up works fine as long as its turned the right dirrection.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ottlemount.jpg
and here is a view from the back... now ... i do have a false floor made for my stereo and that is what it is bolted to (i know i dont have a blowdown tube ... working on it).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ttlemount2.jpg

i then ran the nitrous braided line down through the floor and under the car attatching it allong the brake lines (there is a spot next to them in the factory clips that it fits in (dont have pics trust me).

comming up through the engine bay on the passenger side it crosses behind the plenum (if you have a good eye you can spot the black wireloom).

Then going into the brake resevoir area. This is were is gets confusing. Its not so bad when you are doing it but it looks like hell.
WARNING: you do have to be very inclined on how wireing works. this is not for the light of heart.
you can see the nitrous control module (purple) with the purge mounted to it. along with the MSD digital window switch. first pic is with the outside trim piece still on and the next is all of it removed.

as far as mounting the nozzel i wanted it to be clean so i cut (i know shut up) out a section of the aluminum divider between the engine bay and the brake compartment so that my nozzel could go into the side of my intake and also be hidden by the cover (this took cutting th cover a bit too).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ous/nozzel.jpg

probably the most difficult part was the fuel line tap... the T that came with the kit was nice but not what i wanted and the SPX fuel adapter was so hard to find and also had to be modified so i just went to HOME DEPOT and got brassfittings to do what i wanted (you DO HAVE TO CUT THE FUEL LINE :icon16: ). oh well... pay to play right. i then made it to adapt my fuel pressure guage and also the fuel return line as you can see the purple fitting here.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...s/fueltap2.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...us/fueltap.jpg
it works quite well even though it makes people cringe.

Once all closed up and finished it makes for a pretty clean install

The purge i had wanted to do forever and some may call it rice i call it nice and have gotten nothing but :icon28: and compliments on it so here it is... its a dynotune dual purge with slight modifications to the output nozzells (home depot again). the come out at 45degree angles from the front bumper.
here is a close up shot.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...rous/purge.jpg

The switch was easy, i just put it were i could reach it... left is the nitrous arming switch, and right is the purge (sorry its so dark)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ous/switch.jpg

And thats it... feel free to ask questions and also to leave comments ... have a nice day. here are some parting shots for you picture freaks.

Nice!
That kit looks familiar :icon38:
Good to see it worked out well
You have one bad as$ car man

Nice. I like the purge. Curious about cost and shot size...

Next Addition Suggestion

SP - Yeah, I kinda like the purge location myself. :) Just a suggestion but U might consider a bottle warmer next. I, being from Louisiana also & having a black G, figured that the trunk got hot enough to keep the pressure within the desired range ( 900# - 1000# ) but even with this warm weather of late ( it's 83 degrees here in Alexandria as I write this ) :icon8: I haven't been able to get much above 800# regardless of the amount in the bottle. I borrowed a blanket from a friend's system & there's no pressure problems now. :icon38: My ZEX system seems to be more consistent as the bottle empties & I'm stepping up to 100 hp jets now. Might want to consider the heater, IMHO.
BTW - Since we don't have many Z/G fanatics up in Alex, I'm going to try to make some of the Louisiana Z car club meets this summer in BR. Perhaps we'll meet up & compare systems. Enjoy the squeeze!! :icon4:

spdu4ia Apr 9, 2005 01:37 PM

yes i am definetly going with a bottle warmer next... seeing as how it is in the back window helps keep the temp up but not high enough like you said. I am running a 75 shot as of now but may step up eventually. I haven't made any z car club meets but would like too... thanx for all the comments.

and Weslutes: thanks again for all the help and the kit... worked out perfect. definetly going to good use

about cost... probably close to $1000 give or take... didn't save reciepts so the wife wouldn't find them.. so i'm not real sure.

eh24nyj Apr 13, 2005 04:32 PM

harsh.... :icon24: :icon6:

spdu4ia Apr 14, 2005 07:25 AM

wasn't beeing THAT harsh... just dont think it would be a good idea... the first time you purge on the wrong car and then they EAT YOUR LUNCH at a light because they think you have spray would be pretty embarassing dont ya think?

Gators2001 Apr 14, 2005 01:51 PM

I think he meant the KIT and a purge...

I hope he didnt mean just a Purge....

But who knows to each his own.

spdu4ia Apr 14, 2005 03:22 PM

haha...yea.. but to answer his question without flamage... i purchased the kit from a fellow member here and i know you can get it pretty much anywere it is a standard EFI Wet ZEX kit... and the purge can be found at Dynotune.org (or on ebay). look to spend close to $1000 +- with EVERYthing you need to run it safely.

Alberto Apr 14, 2005 06:09 PM

Install looks good, nice and stealth...until you hit that awesome purge, congrats. Plan on dyno tuning it?

weslutes Apr 14, 2005 08:29 PM

I think he did mean just the purge.
If that's what you mean, just buy a bottle and purge cylinoid.I wouldn't do it but "to each his own".
Otherwise you can buy a used kit and a purge valve for under $500.

Hey spdu4ia, are you planning on gettin those lights for night purging?
I saw the lights on the ZEX website and thought they're pretty cool.
I can't use the purge & lights 'cause I'm purging on my intercooler or else I'd try.

SoCalTed Apr 15, 2005 04:37 PM

Spdu4ia: When you get around to looking at bottle warmers, check out the 860 performance kit. Unfortunately for you, as you already have your kit installed, it's built into the cradle...but it is pressure regulated.

Zex's will only get you to about 800 psi, while 860's will get you in the 1000 psi range.

I have an extra zex heater if you are interested!

Cheers, Ted

Gators2001 Apr 16, 2005 06:31 AM

Hey Ted, how does that 860 Warmer compare to the NX one?

Never heard of the one before.

SoCalTed Apr 16, 2005 08:16 AM

I believe that the NX is also pressure regulated... so I am not sure why they also sell a separate "Pressure Transducer"? 860's comes with it.

Anyway, as I do not have the NX I cannot say it is any better or worse than the 860 Performance unit.

One obvious thing I can point out though, is that with the 860 Perf unit, pulling the bottle for refills is easier since you don't have to deal with the heater wiring and wrapper on the heater the bottle.

860 Performance is carried by DynoTune and runs around $199.
http://www.speedshop.org/store/scrip...tegory=15]Here is a listing of all their bottle heaters (pressure and temp controlled).

Sorry don't have my car right now. It's in the shop getting prepped for ExtremeAutofest in Vegas. I will post up some pixes later this week.

P.S. Before I found the 860 perf unit, I was going to go with the NX heater, but the pressure transducer question stalled me just long enough to come across the 860. Back then, I was going to use the NX heater with the DynoTune cradle. This is a sick little unit that allows you to pull the bottle with only two ring pins. The ring clamps are actually part of handle assy!!! Unfortunately, this thing goes out of stock real quick.

And if that wasn't enough for you, they carry a double rig! :

mrtomcat Apr 16, 2005 06:47 PM

best Bottle Heater you'll find is the NX Fire and Ice. Not only does it controll pressure with a digital chip but it also cools the bottle if there's too much pressure (on those hot summer days) so you're always at the correct pressure zone. This is the way to go
