Default Zex Wet Sys - 2004 DE Comments and Questions

Okay, so I've determined from the forum that I can install the Zex wet system in my stock DE, go to a colder plug, let the ECU handle the retarded timing up to a 100 shot and not worry about detonation. Can I use a progressive controller? Any other comments or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Correction: For the 100 Shot - The Zex Wet Kit Part Number 82220 calls for 92 Octane fuel or higher, Two-step colder plugs and a tune.

Must you go to a colder plug for a 100 shot?

Yes, Zex installation instructions say one step colder plugs for the kit...and besides, that's easy. Some say a two step colder plug for a 100 shot but I'm not sure about that.

The plugs might foul out quickly if it's a daily driver with limited N20 use. I'd think the stock heat range would be fine for the occasional 100 shot.

Im on a 75 shot with 1 step colder plugs, was thinking of going with the 100 shot and use HR plugs, thats what i read most people do.

Did you do it or not ?

I have not installed the kit yet but thank you for your info. I have heard from several folks that you can get by with just the one step colder plugs up to the 75 shot. Thank you for confirming that info. The big question is, what does it take to use the 100 shot. I intend to go two step colder plugs and add or fill the tank with 100 unleaded octane fuel. I have not discovered a way to retard the timing through a factory ECU. It would take a $2000 Haltech ECU to be able to tune the timing and that's too expensive for my setup. One option is to install the $400 Innovate PSN-1 gauge and watch the Air/Fuel ratio during testing. I hope to install the kit in March for the late April race season. I'll update as it comes together. Keep the ideas coming!

I'm not sure what HR plugs are (standard plugs for the HR engine?) but my research shows that the two-step colder plug for my DE is NGK 2309 (LFR7AIX) Iridium plugs. They have the same size, pitch, reach and the "7" means it's two steps colder than the standard NGK 6240 (PLFR5A-11) Laser Platinum. The one-step colder NGK plug being the NGK 7654 (PLFR6A-11) Laser Platinum.

Below are the plugs for the DE engine (2003-2006)

Standard: NGK 6240 (PLFR5A-11)
One Step Colder: NGK 7654 (PLFR6A-11) The "6" denotes one step colder
Two Step Colder: NGK 2309 (LFR7AIX) These have the same thread, pitch and reach as the standard PLFR5A-11 but the "7" denotes two-step colder.
