NOS & "Service Engine Soon" light
Hey guys,
I have had my NX setup now for about 3 months and everything has been cool. I hardly ever pray. I have probably sprayed 3 times in the three months that I have had it. Recently my "Service Engine Soon" light turned on. I am wondering it this could be because of the colder plugs that I had installed. Ever since i had the NX kit and colder plugs installed i have noticed that the car idles a little lower and of course is not as stable of and idle. I am sure this is do to the colder plugs. Now my questions is is the light on because of the plugs or what. My car is running perfectly fine, no problem with it at all but I just hate that light being on. Has this happend to any of you who are spraying?? Please let me know..
Thanks,

the 2 step colder plugs do cause the idle to get a bit more choppy. just a little bit more choppy then stock though. if theres a defect in the plugs then there might be some misfiring going on. did you mess with the plug gaps before installing them?
do you have any sort of other mods like headers, exhaust, intake, test pipes?

Well, first of all. I did not install the plugs, the shop that installed the Kit installed the plugs for me. As far as i know they did not mess around with the gapping. I do have an injen intake that i installed myself, this was way before getting the NX Kit installed though. Like i mentioned before I have had the kit and the plugs installed for about 3 months now and the light just turned on last week. The idle is not completely bad, but like you said its a bit choppy. In fact when i turn on the A/C the idle pretty much goes back to normal. The car seems to run fine, i havent noticed any decrease in power or anything. I just wanted to know if the light turning on is somthing that may have been caused by the plugs. Any recomendations or ideas? Should i just take the car to a shop and have them hook it up to the computer??? Let me know.
Thanks,

there are a ton of things that can trip your CEL. if the cause was from you nitrous kit im sure that light would of been tripped right after your last use, which wasnt the case.
take it in, but make sure you take out your bottle and maybe even take out your seleniods if they're not hidden. they wont ask any questions about switches.

Is there a difference between the "service engine soon" light and the "check engine" light? Because unless the light came on immediately after a nitrous run I doubt the nitrous caused it.

You guys will never belive what happend. Last night i was coming home from school and this guys pulls up next to me in a Mustang GT. So he looks over at me, we are at a red, he revs his engine. So i am like "This guy wants to play", so i hit the switch and active the kit. I rev my engine, the light turns green, and we take off. Of course i spank him, even without the nitrous but i decide to squeeze for the hell of it since i hadn't ran it in a while. So anyways to make a long story short, you would not belive it but today in the morning when i turn on the car, the service engine soon light is no longer turning on. Now what the hell was that all about! I am just happy that the damn light is not on anymore.
That's a good feeling I bet!
I know with my Cobra...the light would come on after 2 consecutive misfires and then stay on for four complete warm up/cool down cycles with no more misfires. This was a common complaint on the first gen. and Ford later reprogrammed the ECU to 4 consecutive misfires.
I traced it to plugs...after replacing the $100 set of platinum plugs with regular $1.98(ea) copper core plugs, problem gone!

my service engine light come on and off every 4 to 5 months. and i dont have nos yet .i am going to NX to get it install by NX . i met the owner at 2004 superstreet tour at enkei wheel's party. he said he would help. the dealer told me it might be bad gas or gas cap not on tight. remember the 350z is only to use 91 octane or highter. i use to have a 2002 nissan pathfinder and the service eng light would come on and off.
