June 22nd @ 1pm - PFM's Summer Detailing Event
 

Project Forward Motion is going to be having our Summer Detailing Day on Sunday June 22nd, at 1pm. We are holding this event in coordination with Detailed Image, one of my350z's detailing sponsors.

We'll be BBQing around noon and once everybody is full of food, we're going to show you guys step by step how to get the most out of your car's finish as well as treating and protecting it.

We will also have Paintless Dent Repair being done on-site for this event. Johnny Dents' mobile service will be on-site after 12pm to do PDR repair for anybody in need. Right now we have about 5 people lined up for work. With a large enough turnout, anybody who gets work done on their vehicle will get 10% off the job! Planned steps / techniques to demo

• Washing and drying, including how to use the sheeting method to improve drying times.
• Proper clay bar use
• Polishing using 1 or 2 stage polish and with a random orbital polisher
• Application of a glaze coat.
• Applying sealant
• Using carnauba wax
• Leather cleanup and conditioning
• Wheel and tire cleaning
• Cleanup and conditioning of exterior plastic trim

The detailing event will be held at our club's usual shop location.We'll have Q&A so post up any questions you might have in advance and we'll do our best to address them. It wasn't something we had planned to go over. I'm really not a fan of doing the intensive engine bay cleaning as it seems that most people can cause more damage than good by it, particularly if they take a pressure washer or try aggressive cleaners. Some degreasers will dry out the rubber components in your engine, causing them rot or crack.

All I ever recommend is just using a diluted bucket of simple green and water if you have greased up areas on your engine cover / plenum or sides of the engine bay, then lightly rinse.

Too bad this is the day AFTER HIN...this would be good for me before the show. I will be down for this...I am very interested in learning about buffing!!

I want to get this small scratch out of my front quarter panel and I think i'll need the buffer. I consider myself a good detailer, but buffing is a whole new level of detailing IMO.

I should be boosting by tomorrow...the car may even be done today, but unlikely. The second Julian calls i am leaving to go get it.

LOL, sorry?? HIN is never even on my radar. Little too ghetto fab for my tastes, but probably why I avoid car shows in general. :)

We'll show you how to get show car shine, but the keys are going to be protecting and caring for your paint, which ultimately gives you the best finish as it is.

It's all your fault if I loose the biased show competiton!!!

Thanks. I've always been hesitant to do any intensive cleaning and would probably have pros do it if the engine got that bad. I do a little vacuuming and wipe things down here and there, but haven't tried the simple green. Thanks for the tip. See you on the 22nd.

I start at exit 9 on the turnpike. Not sure what time I will be going to the meet, but we'll figure out the details later.

If you were in northern Jersey I would consider it. I am only about 1 hr 20 mins from the city. I am probably going to FormulaD next weekend at Englishtown -- any of you going?
