A ride in 350Zzzz's Procharged Z
Well, for whatever reason, Gerald hasn't posted much about his supercharged Z, so I figured I would. I was fortunate enough to go for a ride in his car today.
First thing I noticed, Gerald, your garage is tiny! The right mirror came within an inch of hitting that padlock! I guess it's completely functional though. Next thing, of course Gerald's car is very very clean. We talk for a little, and then he pulls it out and we got for a little ride. Before I get in, I take a moment to admire the Stoptech fronts with drilled rotors all around. Nice! He just barely clears his driveway and off we go. There's absolutely no squeal on start up. There is of course, a pretty good amount of supercharger whine, but that's to be expected. While driving on city streets, it's pretty noticeable. The normal Z is really a fairly quiet car with the windows up. You don't hear much unless the car is revved a bit. With the Procharger in, you always think you're driving near an airport. The whine is very airplane like. We get onto the 95 and lets just say Gerald goes wild. Speeding on public roads is something I do, but of course cannot officially condone. I couldn't see the speedo, but at some point I think we hit about 120. When it comes to getting up to speed, the Procharged Z is a different car than one from the factory. It sounds different and feels different. The whine actually becomes less noticeable while at freeway speeds. Speed builds at a shocking rate. There's probably some way to figure out a formula to determine if a car feels like it gives that "push back into the seat feeling." If you calculated your weight, the acceleration of the car, the friction between your butt and the seat, seatbelt tension, and the springiness of the seat, you'd probably find something. Of course, it'd be different for everybody. My Z doesn't deliver this. It's a fast car, the fastest I've driven, but it doesn't have that kick in the pants, wide eyes feel. The Procharged Z does. In bucketloads. The best way to sum it up, "That Z is like....wo" Congrats Gerald, can't wait to see the rest of the parts. |
Andrew, did Gerald have the new wheels on yet?
I was 10 shy of that today in Vermont. A black TT was trying to keep up with me. I decided to slow down and let him pass. |
Can't wait til Saturday to check it out.:D

No, no HRE's on it yet.
It's pretty sad that the fastest I've gone in a Z is while I've been sitting in somebody elses Z. |
