wasuber Jun 22, 2012 07:07 PM

I think it was at a shop, a friend of mine snapped this today and watched the whole thing go down.

You know, they like, missed a few payments type deal..

mattleegee Jun 22, 2012 07:09 PM

as long as it was organized crime i guess

e30cabrio Jun 22, 2012 07:13 PM

I doubt it is legal to drop a car on it's rotors even if you owe for the wheels.

wasuber Jun 23, 2012 12:11 PM

What went down @ Capital Mall in Olympia, Washington -

"Capitol mall, crew came and took wheels and tires from someone's car and left car on some set of junk rims. Hate to be that guy getting off work and BAM"

Verbatim!

mr. sparco Jun 23, 2012 12:23 PM

Were they brand new Volks?

ZS14RR Jun 23, 2012 12:25 PM

Never heard of this....well that's why I save up a pay in full instead on car stuff. Instead of getting life in debt.

Nismo Ninja Jun 23, 2012 04:16 PM

You sure it wasn't some people pretending to be repo men and really just jacking the rims?

e30cabrio Jun 23, 2012 04:19 PM

^Sounds more likely.

Stock2Autocrozz Jun 23, 2012 05:18 PM

Ever since being in Daytona 3 years ago I see these "leasing rims" biz's...is this actually a viable business? BC, the one in Daytona is still there...and I am confused, possibly bc I am a large white conservative, but the aspect of leasing rims to me seems retarded.

SparkleCityHop Jun 23, 2012 06:53 PM

It's a pretty lucrative business model that mainly targets broke thugs that want to live like ballers today and figure out how to pay for it tomorrow.

This is no different than:

- "Buy here, pay here" month to month car rent-to-own places
- Payday advance loans
- Title loans

Stock2Autocrozz Jun 23, 2012 07:16 PM

Assumed as much...off to bank with this idea now...lol.

I just figure half the "ballers" are going to fugg up the rims anyways!?

SparkleCityHop Jun 23, 2012 07:22 PM

The wheels they sell aren't nice or really expensive, they are just blingy and marked up prices. It's not like they are Volks or anything… it's usually cheap/crap chrome wheels in the standard "hey look at me, I have shiny wheels" - or "hey look, they spinnin', they spinnin' "

So the dummies think they are getting $4000 wheels just because that's what the price says in the store and "they sure are shiny, they must be expensive". They are really wheels that are manufactured so cheaply that they probably break even on the second month's payment due to the massive markup.

Must be an East coast thing, Ive never heard of or seen these before. Gotta say its a brilliant idea though, so many wannabe ballas out there to exploit.

SparkleCityHop Jun 23, 2012 07:30 PM

Nope. It's all over. I know a main investor/owner of one of the big chains that does this, and they are in all 4 time zones and target store locations in the inner-city ghettos and lower-income suburbs of medium to large cities.

Cali may have consumer protection laws that prevent this type of "predatory business", so that may be why you haven't seen them. Cali seems to be a little more progressive on laws like that.

Stock2Autocrozz Jun 23, 2012 07:55 PM

Yeah, I have only seent the Rent_A_Wheel, not joking, thats the name...in Daytona Beach....would be perfect for my market.

And I def figured they would be cheap ish rims, for sure lol...I knew they werent sporting any enthusiasts.

PM me your buds info or vice versa, so we could penetrate, for lack of a better term the segment in Midwest...lol

sdZ33 Jun 23, 2012 08:11 PM

We have a "Rent-a-wheel" here in San Diego... And they mainly promote on the hip-hop staions on the radio... I'm pretty sure they are targeting the "SWAG" crowd!

xtrmspd Jun 24, 2012 07:22 PM

I don't see the problem in this. It's not like these so called "ballas" were fooled into spending money on these, let them spend their minimum wage earnings. In fact, I know a guy who is renting a set and it's uhhhhhhhgly and yes it's chromed and yes he's not all that bright.
