Default Cracked Windshield

What a pisser. Driving to work this morning enjoying my new suspension and "dink" a nice star on my drivers side with a nice 4" crack running horizontal out from it. I will eventually replace the windshield but had some question I was hoping you guys could answer:

1. Does anyone know the cost of the Nissan OEM windshield? I've heard about $950.

2. Does anyone know of a glass repair shop that can keep this from expanding? I know you can have the star cracks filled to keep them from spidering. I've also heard that can do a minor drill at the end of the actual crack and fill it as well to keep the larger crack from expanding. I just called a glass repair place near my work and he said this is not true that anything over an inch needs to have the entire windshield replaced.

He quoted me $300. for a new windshield, but I'm pretty hesitant to install a non OEM windshield becuase I'm afriad of leaks.

Any input you guys can provide would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Jason

I called my insurance- they said they would not cover it and that I would have to pay my deductible ($500). The guy was a real jerk.

So if the windshield turns out to be $950. (or anything over $500) I'm going to pay my deductible make them pay the rest- then I'm switching my insurance.

Everyone else I have talked to says that their insurance covers this type of incident by waiving their deductible. Guess I'm just not one of the lucky ones.

man, that sucks... well, at least you don't have to worry about rock chip cracking more of the windshield if you make it on the drive this weekend

Yep, the same thing happened to me, but I sustained damage to the front end and hood as well as a 6 inch crack in the windshield.

When searching for a replacement windshield I was unable to find non-Nissan glass and was left with no choice but to go with Nissan glass. The cost was a little under $900 but other dealerships quoted me as high as $1100 for the replacement... My advice is to shop around.

With those costs I had to go through my insurance and of course the insurance company retaliated by raising my premium $200 for the 6 month period.

What I'm in the process of doing is filing a claim with Cal-Trans to cover the expenses since, in my situation, they are at fault. All this damage occured in a construction zone where they have been neglecting debris removal. If you can prove that Cal-Trans was negligent you might have a good shot at recovering your costs without having to fight them in court.

It's worth a shot.

Unhappy Ouch

Jason,

Let me know i usually can get a good deal on OEM Nissan parts I'll help you out for your cause.

Don't even think of getting a NON OEM windshield. Most of the quality of the glass doesn't even compare. trust me I know this from experience.

You might be able to find a crashed 350Z With a fine windshield problem is I only know of those in east coast side.

Yuichi- Let me know. Brando222 mentioned that he could possibly get a slight discount on a Nissan OEM windshiled as well- The major concern is who will install it. Any of you guys have a windshield replaced and know someone with experience that you can recommend? Yuichi- you're close to my work so if you know someone local that woould be great. BTW- sorry we missed you yesterday.

ADOOZIE, How much was your front end repair, and which body shop did you go to, would you recommend the body shop?
