I've always been looking for another vehicle that I can load & take to the snow. Plus I think I need to retire the Pimp Van since it's starting to fall apart on me now. Was thinking of getting a black Toyota Tacoma 4x4 & fixing it up just like this (minus the stickers of course & maybe a slightly less aggressive front bumper):

Anyone local have a Tacoma 4x4? How do you like it? Is it really as durable as what I've been reading? Pros? Cons? Likes? Dislikes?

i had an 05 taco double cab, long bed. lifted with wheels and tires. i put 52,000 miles in one year, not problems whatsoever. i was thinking about getting the camburg suspension as well, but decided to trade because of mileage. thats about the only con i can think of was after the lift i was only averaging 14 -16mpg.

Yike! Hmm...perhaps I should wait at for at least the gas to drop down a bit :p

i guess it wouldnt be that bad, it seems like your only gonna be using it for recreation. btw driving a lifted truck was the best, you could see everything so much better, and you could climb curbs to evade traffic. i called it "urban off-roading."

I love trucks. The new Tundras and Titans are sick. As for gas mileage well yea you're going to be spending more at the pump but I don't think miles/per gallion is going to be too far off. I'm getting around 17-18 miles/gallon mixed driving on my Z. A buddy fo mine has a Tundra and he's not too far off. He pays more because his tank is larger but he doesnt have to pay for premium.

Hahaha...yeah. I always go to snow trips during winter & end up renting a truck all the time since nobody I know has one I can use (definitely adds up). I think it'll be a fun alternative if I have one of those days I'm tired of riding low. Sometimes I just want to run over everything & not worry about curbing/bending a rim :icon10: :icon38:.

+1 There are time in traffic I just want to hop the medium like all the other trucks and not worry about anything.

they were 16's on 285x75 cooper tires. you would have to do some fab work to the front fenders to fit 33's.

Yeah +1 I can't think of a truck off the top of my head that can clear 33s in the front without a lift and/or front fender mods.

Yeah, I figured that'll be the case. I want the same stance as the ones pictured above on the Camburg truck.

That is a tight truck but sadly it'll probably still high center more than a standard cab or a jeep.

I loved my tundra. When I was looking at the Z, i was still thinking about a Tacoma and lifting it right the first time.
Camburgs are a great setup. Also look into Donahoes. They are probably both going to be around 2.5-3" lifts.
If you're looking for a "easily" lifted truck, stay away from the Tundras. Not too much other there for it.

I am leasing an '07 F150 for 3xx/mo as a tow vehicle / just-in-case-there-is-too-much-snow-for-my-e30 winter ride ... never liked American car mfgrs but it's not bad really, esp. for the cash.

I kept mine in the family and went with an Xterra SUV - sweet ride so far and it's taken me in and out of places that I would have never thought possible. We do desert runs here every months climbing canyons and following goat (donkey) trails up to old mines, Army forts, and cattle ranches from the 1800's. Lots of fun.

32" tires are stock, the 2-3" lift was $210 - and about $2000 for the skid plates, slider bars, and steel front bumper. Tires to follow eventually. Why buy a truck for looks? I'd rather see you buy a truck to fit a particular need other than looking good/tough/aggressive. We call them mall crawlers - guys who spend thousands and thousands to put an 8" lift, 35" tires, and dual shocks on the corner and never take them off road.
