hello ozoc-ers... its been what seems a century.
just wanted to let everyone know finally saved up enough for a down payment and bought a new 2011 wrx. Its not an STI but i just couldnt afford the payments but im still pretty excited and happy with the decision. Went with the Hatch for family-mode if/when that time comes. Next car is most likely for the wife so i'll be in the wrx for quite a while.

Probably not for a while.. i need to pay off some big debt first (aside from the car loan),
but mods in order will probably be Coilovers, wheels/tires, Exhaust, Cobb Access Port. And i haven't thought about anything beyond that yet. this is my first turbo car and im sure its a lot different than what i'm used to modding.

Just got word that it looks like I am going to be back here in Afghan mid 2013, which means I dont get back to the mainland until mid 2014.
My car is F'D. It has been in storage now for 2 year and that will be another 2 years from when I get back. 4 years without being started. That motor is DONE!
I have some serious thinking to do:
1. Do I continue to pay for the storage. That will total $1200*4 =$4800 in storage fees alone.
2. There is no way I replace it with a stock engine, that would be stupid. Plus the cost to replace the engine which we all know means BUILD $13-20K.
2a. We know the tires will need to be replaced, the rims are going to need to be swapped out since it is now wide body. Were talking another $6-7K for rims and tires.
2b. Then there is the suspension and camber kit that is going to cost $3-5K. I was looking at some sort of bag coilover setup, not sure what I would get but it would be a must to save the money spend on paint and body for this kit.
2c. Due to the serious increase of HP reaching around 600-700rwhp, I am going to need new axles for $1500. .
We are now at a total of Low to High; $29-40K. If you know me I have already spent SEVERAL thousand on this beast. That cost would officially complete the car. Some small tweaks here and there as new audio comes out, new head lights...ect, overall, the major build would be complete. Do I take and entire 3-4 months of pay from the next deployment and spend it on solely this car to complete my masterpiece.
2. Or do I just sell the car when I get back from Afghanistan while on leave in June? I will say this, I never even had the opportunity to enjoy the new body kit. The only time I brought her out to show her off, I won Best In Show at "Battle of the Imports, Orlando."
Stats on the car, she is an 04 with 82K miles on the motor, the engine would be brand new when I got her back so really no miles, and the rest of the car has completely been replaced with almost no miles on any of it.
3. If I sell the car, I would save myself ALLOT of money that I can spend on more pressing things like future bills or a new truck or boat. I dont ever drive unless its to a show or car meet and the rare night out on the town where i can vallet her. My car and it sits 95% of the time. Would I probably get allot of attention at future shows, yeah sure. Is it something that I can give to my son when he gets older yeah.
I am in the military and will be for the next few years. I cant bring this to Hi with me since it is too low. I will face the same problem if I go to Germany which will be for 4 years, unless I want to spend the $7500 to containerize her and ship her overseas, which would be $15K round trip, just so I can have her sit and once in a while drive out on the autobahn should I get that Germany assignment.
Or do I sell her to a willing taker and allow them to enjoy the fruits of my spoils and hard labor?

I was thinking the same thing. Its just hard to determine the price. It doesn't start right now since its been sitting for so long. I know the oil return and feed lines need to be replaced from sitting as well as some of the other silicone lines but that is to be expected when something just sits.
Is $20K firm an unreasonable offer? I cant see selling it for less, lord knows I could part it out for more than that, I just dont have the time to part it out.
