North Shore Shark Adventures

I don't know if any of you local guys bother doing this kind of touristy stuff, but I'm basically on a year long vacation, so it was interesting to me. I went to one of those shark cage trips. I wasn't really expecting much, a friend went recently and spent the whole time puking, she only saw 4 sharks. Today was one of the nicer days I've seen here (actually, they're all pretty nice) and it was pretty calm out. There were only four customers, we went into the cage in pairs and spent about 20-30 minutes in it. They barely have to chum the water, I think the sharks are trained enough to come at the sound of the engine. I think we saw about 10 sharks, Sandbars and Galapagos, the largest was about 10 feet long. It was all pretty fun, I took a bunch of pics, but as with most underwater shots, most don't look quite right.

Kama'ina rates are about $85. Kind of pricey, but better than the tourist rate of $100+.

If anybody has any other suggestions as to what to do in Hawaii, I'd love to hear them.

Oh, stopped by Pipeline after the swim, it was pretty small, but of course still way too big for me to do anything other than watch.

If you're into fine arts, you can do the Shangri-La tour that the Honolulu Academy of Art is hosting. It's a tour of the Doris Duke (Poor Little Rich Girl) Estate. It's about 2.5 hrs.

You can also fly to Kauai where you can do a kayaking tour to various hidden waterfalls and lava tube caves. It's actually quite interesting.

if you want to do touristy things. i suppose you can go to polynesian cultural center... or if you want to do a luau, then paradise cove is supposed to be good. havent been to the latter, but the pcc was kind of interesting.

oh yeah, if you go to the big island, i guess you can go check out the lava. i dont think it is reaching the ocean anymore, but you can fly over it by helicopter. i have actually never seen molten lava before.

damn, actually, i have been living in hawaii practically my whole life and i havent done many things. what a waste.

Yeah, that's like how I lived within 90 minutes of Manhattan and never saw the Statue of Liberty.

I think if my parents ever come visit I'll take them to the PCC, but other than that, I'm not going to go. I've been to a luau on Maui, it wasn't all that hot. It's not an experience that needs to be repeated. Been to the BI before also, saw the lava.
