With that lense, too. Any praise or objections?

Stock lens is overrated according to Vlad. But the camera itself is awesome. I'm so jealous.

Hmmm I'm thinking about getting that as well or the Rebel XT with some goodies. Have you seen any good prices?

Nice!! How much?

With compact cameras able to take some AMAZING pics, do you really have a need for that or more specifically will you really learn how to use it to it's fullest extent so it will make a difference? Also (and probably more importantly), will it's size stop you from taking it with you because the best camera does you no good if you don't have it with you.

I have a Canon Powershot SD500 that I use in manual mode and I personally can't see the need for a better camera unless you are a real hobbyist or use it commercially (neither applies to me, but it might to you of course).

~$1800. I stuck it out with my DSC-F707 for 4 years and I'm treating myself :)

Edit: that, and a girl threw it out of her window into a dumpster :icon20:

Shiva (promised to not start any women drama threads again)

....I think may be the most recurrent theme in all of your posts Steve. :icon17:

Photography is one of my hobbies. I used to tote around my dad's old Canon A1 (he had a ton of great lenses) in high school and I won some competitions. I still have the negatives around here somewhere.

For me, the main selling points were the SLR body and 9-point focusing mechanism.

As it happens, I'm taking some product photography in the next few weeks. This was my opportunity to buy using the corporate account :D

Well the real benefit would be that I would probably have a hard time convincing a chick I was a professional photographer so she would take off her clothes with my dinky little camera. That bad boy would have a different effect!

Damn, this thread seemed much cooler when all I could see was "I'm about to pick up a Canon."

The F707 sucked for that too. The A1 was awesome!

Plus, my Dad had a ruddy old bag with a ton of huge lenses. I still had a good deal to learn about photography, but all the old-school equipment made me look like a pro.
