It's time to choose lens!! Canon 20d or Xti
I'm newbie to SLR world and studied for a while. However, I decided to go with cannon. but still debating which model.
used 20d vs mint XTI 20d is around $450 from ebay XTI is around $500 (but almost new or even bandnew) i found Brandnew XTI with kit lens around $680, but people say that don't get the kit set since kit lens is useless. So I decided to purchase body only! there are pros and cons on both cameras. I could finally check out the both cameras today. 20d Pros: better features, outstanding grip, noise level, etc. slightly better than XTI, but not significantly....(i guess) XTI pros: newer, bigger lcd, 10mp vs 8mp(20d) < but really don't matter... Most of my pics will be portrait. it will be taken inside of church for people, events on out door. Also I need some throw distance around 100ft maximum. and Price range is around $300 for used lens only. What would be ideal for me? and what 'mm' range i should look for my throw distance? thanx |
I would go for the 20D.
As for the lens not too familiar with Canon, just know that USM type should be your choice. |
a member from here recomended
Tamron SP AF 17-50/2.8 LD Macro Lens for $350, but wouldn't it be too short distance? |
ergonomics and larger viewfinder on the 20D > 400D
the 400D feels like a kids toy. You'll like the 20D better imo. Get the Tamron 17 50 for the every day lens and get an 85 f/1.8 for a portrait lens. Don't bother with the 50 f/1.8 - it's too soft until you stop it down past f/3.5 |
aight i found
1. 20d + EFS 18-55 3.5-5.6 + EF 28-135 3.5-5.6 for around $800 2. 20d + 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM around not sure yet but i'm aiming $700? both on ebay... which one is better? |

20d with nifty 50 (canon 50mm 1.8($70)) and if you want a 'zoom' then the sigma 70-300 APO DG isn't bad for the money.

aight. What price range should I look for this set?
canon 20d + CANON Ultrasonic EF 50mm Lens with a Tiffen 58mm UV filter (1.4ver)+ CANON Ultrasonic EF-S 10-22mm Zoom lens with lens hood and a HOYA 77mm UV filter. I found that just for the used lens price are about to $700... so If I get this set for $800 it is steal? |
i have a 20d, and can't be happier. the 17-50 f/2.8 is my primary lens that i use right now, and it's an excellent walking around lens. the quality is excellent and i really like the sharpness, but the only downside is i find 50mm isn't a far enough of a zoom for me.
if you want to be a ballllllar, look into the 85mm f/1.2 L for a portrait lens |

i say 20D as well. my buddy has one, takes nice shots and it's virtually the same as the 30D.
