Canon 40D or Nikon D300

So im planning to purchase a camera, and my budget is under two grand. Fortunatly, there is a lot of cameras to offer at that price.
I have narrowed it to 2 companies.
Canon
Nikion

The two i have heard a lot about are the 40D and the D300

I am only concerned about buying the body right now, and am wondering your opinions on these cameras, and which one you would purchase for two grand.

Thanks for any info.

but still, i want to hear your peoples opinions!!

I like the lay out of the Nikon better than the Canon. There are a few small details that I like about the D300 over the D40 but it is a hard choice, they are both great cameras.

If you get into the hobby, you'll end up spending $4000+ on good lenses and accessories. That's where I'd look first and choose your body based upon what you prefer as far as lenses. No point in dropping $2000 on a body that will depreciate at a much quicker rate than a $1600 lens.

See, Canon VS Nikon discussion is like discussing religions. Never ends.
Those are the specs of D300, it is more advance than 40D.
However, I could never justify me spending $2k on a camera body only.
I'll wait.

Thanks for the info. I could see what you mean, especially when camera hobbieists either have all nikons or all canons.
Its more like which layout and name do you prefer. (purpose and function before flash and unnecessary tech. im going with canon)

bhendjol 11-25-2007 08:36 PM

Im thinkin of upgrading to Alpha 700, but Panasonic DMC L1 is $1200.
Oh~ Dillema.
What do You think?

Actually more than that but nothing to really brag about. The D300 is a 12 MP vs 10mp the D300 has 51 autofocus point vs 9 I think. The D300 does 6-8 FPS, but requires the extra battery pack to get to 8 fps. The 40D does 6.5 FPS.

If money was the issue I go for the 40D, which IMO is a pretty good bang for the buck. BTW the spec of the 40D are closer to the Nikon D80.

What about the Sony A700??? I think that is it...i was thinking about a 40d and threw it up against the Sony and they are about the same except for focus points or something like that.

I don't know jack about cameras though, i have a Sony DSC-f828 that i thought would yield me some great photos, but i soon realized that i don't know how to use it, thus my pictures suck. I need to take some classes or something.

Canon 40D FTW! Canon offers more accessories and lenses... it's easier to buy second hand lenses (which can save you hundreds off of those expensive L lenses). Plus Canon has crazy year end rebates for tons of their products.

breakyoselfvq35 11-26-2007 10:55 AM

^^^^^^ Nice shooting.

Ya. Im going with canon. Not to mention i have a large supply of lenses considerin my buddy has already spent over 4k on his canon's. he is using the 1D mark III right now.
