N0ob with a DSLR. How crappy are my pics?

Just borrowed my friends DSLR to take a few pics. Normally use a junk point and shoot I bought back in 04.

Wow, those look awesome. Any installed pics? And it seems like the leds in the front are brighter than the ones that go across the back side.

I agree Nic. Seems like the bottom ones are square and the sides are round. I think with a minor tweak in getting the sides square like the fronts it will be gravy baby!

Also you need some more Photography help :P

Nothing on car yet. These are the VERY FIRST set. Custom mixed gun metal with flake paint job, Audi R8 mod, halo, JDM STi replica clear lens upgrade. The reason the LEDs are dimmer in the back is for two reasons. One, they aren't all faced towards the camera. The 06 lights are curved. Two, the ones running up the edge are a different style of LED that had to be placed behind the housing to work correctly. After WEEKS of testing and wrecking sets of 06's, this is the ONLY way it can be done and closed up. And believe me, if you saw these in person, they'd all appear just as bright and draw attention like a moth to a flame.

those lights are WOW :icon11: :icon11:

i'd just be worried that every ricer and their brother will be doing the R8 mod in the coming years..

nice pix too!

Ive noticed that the screen looking part on the top half of the light is still there. Is there any reason to keep?

Buyers request most likely

Its a marketing ploy. Good job.

Nic@CiNcity 05-20-2008 04:02 PM

LOL.. I suppose I'll snap some flowers or birds or something to get some real info on how to take pictures with this thing. Honestly, I want to get better at snapping pics of lights seeing as how my whole business is based on pictures. Marketing ploy or not, I need to figure this thing out.

i suppose if this is for product picture, you might wanna consider a light box
http://blog.makezine.com/archive/200...light_box.html

the light outside the window tends to be distracting.

Nic@CiNcity 05-20-2008 07:46 PM

Good idea! Thanks! I'll have to build one of those.

KYEXTAZ 05-20-2008 08:06 PM

A good setting for pictures of those lights would be on Manual, 200ISO, about a 1 to 2 sec shutter. And if you dont have one already, TRIPOD.

Nic@CiNcity 05-21-2008 09:41 AM

I'm borrowing the camera from a friend, so no tripod. Just wanted to get a good feel for what he calls a "basic set up". Canon rebel XTi. I'll have to go through the manual and see how to change the shutter speed. Thanks for the advise!
