Something the iPhone can't do...

...take decent photos. It's good for a head shot to put with a contact entry and that's about it.

After a meeting in downtown OKC this morning, I decided to shoot a few of the Z. All I had was the iPhone camera, but I thought that would good enough for the screen. Nope. It's noisy and not very sharp. The lens flares so badly as to be nearly useless unless the sun is directly at your back.

Examples (These were massaged heavily in Photoshop and they still sUck.):

Noisy

Flare (I'm looking for a LITTLE flare here, but not this.)

The best of the bunch, sorta. Still quite noisy.

I'll come back with Nikon when the lighting is better (the "golden hour") and get some nice captures at this locale.

Got this one with my iphone about a year ago leaving the lake. Still one of my favorite pictures of all time.

Did you really think a 2MP pos camera would do anything great? Plus you'd have to be quite stable to get a decent picture.

Nevermind looks like hell all streached

Well, it ain't the 2 MP that's killing it. I can live with that. What I can't live with is painfully obvious noise in situations where it should be using a small f/stop and fast shutter (bright sun). I normally use my hand as a "lens shade" to help with flare, but the dang thing is too hard to hold with one hand and shoot (as someone mentioned).

Yup if you are moving when you take the picture it will come out crappy. Thats what I noticed with the Iphone camera. Plus you need alot of light or else it wont come out too well.

iphone needs a tripod :P

its...a....phone... not a camera, why would you expect amazing things

WhiskeyHotel Jan 15, 2009 03:15 PM

I wouldn't, actually. However, it's nearly flawless at everything else, so the camera sticks out, I guess.
