Tritan's JE Imports compound turbo Z
Hi friends, So I've never posted much but I've been on here since 06 or so the point is I'm an engineer and I want to try something different so I'm going to compound Turbo my 04 350z man/vert. 1 big rear mount turbo to feed two small twins, I'm not hunting any particular result besides novelty and to see what we can produce, life's about the Journey friends :-)

The story
In college I had a black G35 auto coup off the lot in 04. In auto Garage my senior year 08 I came into some money and ordered a Power enterprise TT kit from Japan and installed with my autogarage buddies. I had the car tuned and a UTEC installed at a long gone shop in Northern Virginia owned by a guy who used to work for altered Atmosphere. I was making something like 320 HP and torque and the spool was really good, but I moved in with two guys one with a CTSV and another who supercharged his 05 mustang GT and a good friend bought an Evo 9 MR and the arms race was on... I went to JE Imports after getting stomped on the highway by a RB240sx who recommended James's shop for the next step, rods..

...continues
There I did Tomie rods wisco turbo compression pistons, oversized supertech valve, titanium springs BC268 cams cometic head gasket arp L19s, a speed force racing built trans and upped the boost to 13 psi, I was in the low 400s HP and torque and running 12.8 qtr miles... And life was good until another 10k and the headgasket wentr. In the meantime I bought attempted to drift and was totaled in my own RB25 95 240sx... Then I leased A GTR and the G35 Sat in the garage getting tinkered with.

This year I sold my house and sent the old G35 back up to JE and uttered those aweful words, take it back to stock... The thing was I needed a donor engine and the lease on the GTR was soon up so talking with Ryan and Chris at JE I decided to have one last go at tuning, at the dawn of all electric cars immisions insanity and self driving software, when the manual trans looks not long for this world I decided I wanted to build the hot import nights car I couldn't afford in college... And here I am 30 a decade behind the scene about to do a street build, I found a craigslist 1 owner OK shape 04 350z vert to do the heart transplant with the 04 G, got the G back on the road NA, let the GTR go, and now what to do with the 350z? First step was to find a Machine shop I felt comfortable with, Not far from JE is AHM on route 40 Baltimore Chris there came recommended from some musclecar guys and when I saw he did Forsberg's VK54 z I took him the Vq35de to be sleeved with Darton MID's and balanced with ACL race bearings (and that's where we are today October 23)

The concept
So I've not seen anyone make more than 500 on the Power enterprise kit, There was a technosquare car in a super street shootout some years ago at 18psi making 480 or so, and Philthy had a sick time attack G35 that swapped the Turbos to Garrett T28.. Running in the 5s.
My concept was to compound the PE kit with a larger rear mount in order to take advantage of the small 50mm turbo spool with the flow rate of a big snail slow to pump back aft. Math and drawings to follow |

Very Cool Build idea, Had an extremely similar build plan but to utilize the JWT 530 kit and a Boosted Performance mid mount. Dropped the idea when i picked up a Mazda REPU to bag.
Theres a great thread on yellowbullet regarding compound turbocharging if you have not read it already. Looking forward to see what you come up with. |
sub'd!

Can't seem to open the link properly, Here's the one I'm referencing

its a built.... not many happen this days involving turbo kits let alone a built engine....
Certainly the darton sleeves are overkill unless you going for triple digits.....which, only reason I did them.... a few shops have done it even with out them... |

you engine setup is somewhat similar to what I did... but obviously you are not running 35psi all the time, right?... that's on the dyno, right?... what turbo are you going to run again?....
I had no issues with the sleeves myself, and also did it as precaution since I was going to go to ~2bar+...however others in the past have had issues with sinking...heat is also an issue, but I am sure you are already considering some mods for that :) On the heads I went also with supertech titanium+ oversized and ported......and you should be able to rev it quite a bit, but id recommend you add the nismo oil pump it was a bit pricy, but at the higher RPMs oil starvation is a concern... at the least a revup ALso, since you will rev higher, and may be considering smaller turbos maybe consider for top end and go with BC 275 cams...I went tomei 280. WHATEVER YOU DO, pretty excited to finally see a "build" in a while that isn't just about bags and rims with CAI for performance...lol |
I went with a Rev up oil pump, and a aluminum Rad/slim line fans and mishimoto stat. and yes HP goals are dyno queen numbers, I'll be using a HKS Evc to control boost around town to tamer levels.
for the primary I'm narrowing down on a GT4508R T6 the secondaries (twins are the IHI1420s off the PE kit) they are similar to T2860s in size actually a little smaller on the turbine side, they spool really fast but starve out at the top end hence the compound idea. |
and I have a set of BC 264 cams at the moment, was looking at the tomie 272s for intakes with 11.3 lift
