Default Hatch pop up spring mod NO PENNIES!!

i reworked my hatch open springs to have more preload than normal, allowing me to remove the pennies in the rubber boot. here are some pics for those interested, took about 20 mins.

exploded view of the hatch spring unit along with the washer and a spring spacer to remove the e-clip on the shaft.

place the washer here, in this pic there are 2 but i ended up only using one because there was too much preload.

with spring

this is how i am using the V shaped metal clip to allow space for me to remove and reinstall the e-clip.

use needle nose pliers to remove/install the e-clip from the shaft. be careful to hold the assembly tight while removing or installing the e-clip. it can pop out and send all the parts flying, ask me how i know.

final assembly only using one washer. Hatch pops open first click with a much more forceful pop then when using pennies. this will also not put a dent in your hatch.

I like it.

I have dealt with the "hatch does not pop open" problem 3 or 4 times during my 14 years owning a 350z, and this seems to be a real solution.

Good info. How thick is the washer you used.

not sure of the size, just found some that had a big enough opening to fit the plastic spring cup. the last picture should give you a good idea as to what size you should aim for.
