Pnp switch help
Hey everyone quick question i tried searching but didn't find the info i needed. My 03 z is throwing a code for the pnp switch. I replaced my clutch flywheel and trans and had no codes until a few months later. Anyway i replaced the switch but im still getting the code. Any one know what it could be? Inspection is like 6 months passed due thinking i should get this done asap lol

One simple way to check the switch's function in a manual transmission car is to engage the cruise control, accelerate slightly with the gas pedal, lift your foot off the pedal and shift to neutral without depressing the clutch pedal. The cruise control should disengage.

Did you clear the codes after you performed the fix?

See page 538 & 543:

According to the FSM for the 03 Coupe, it could be a bad A/C amp. I hope it's not, because those can get a bit spendy. If you haven't already done so, have a read through that section to see if it can offer you any new troubleshooting information.
Edit:
Since you live in the rust belt, be sure to check your grounds.

If you cannot engage cruise control, the PNP switch could be stuck in the neutral position (permanently closed). This would trigger your fault code.
A bad Unified Meter and A/C Amp would only apply to automatic transmission cars.

Did you use an OEM part?

You're correct about the switch location. The reverse switch is on the driver side. There's always the remote possibility that the switch was damaged on installation.

For some reason, 350Zs and aftermarket sensors seem to be problematic. It's a simple enough part, but if it's made by Dorman, I'd probably be looking for either OEM or at the very least a different brand.

Before you buy another switch, test the one you have. With the transmission in gear, disconnect the connector and test the switch for continuity. If the switch is closed, you have a problem. I would try this in each gear position. Then put the transmission in neutral and check that the switch is closed. If the switch passes all these checks, the problem is probably in the wiring harness.
