2003 Nissan 350z cranks but wont start
Hello I have a 2003 Nissan 350z manual. Let’s get started. My original engine (vq35de) blew some rings, before this my car was running fine. About two weeks later I bought a remanufactured engine from a 2005 Nissan 350z automatic(vq35de) I went ahead and swapped the engine and swapped the flywheel, electrical harness, crank and cam sensors, thermostat, starter, ac and alternator. Once I had everything installed right I put the battery back in and tried to start the car, it would crank and crank but wouldn’t start. I would crank for 5-7seconds at a time and about every tenth time it would fire once (just one cylinder once). Then ten more times of not firing. I made sure it wasn’t the security system. I took it to a shop and they made sure I had compression, fuel and spark. I had compression and fuel but no spark. That shop thought it was a key problem so I had a new key made and that didn’t work. After that I took it to the Nissan dealership in Medford Oregon and they THINK it is the ecm. To be honest I cant see spending 1300 dollars because they think that is the problem. I am looking for help any advice will be much appreciated. Please ask me for any other information you need. Thank you

This certainly fits the pattern for a NATS issue. Having another key made with a different chip means the key had to be programmed to work with your ECM. Was that key programmed by the shop and how did they perform that work? Are you still using the original ECM that came with the Z? Have you pulled any codes with a scan? Did the dealership pull any codes when they used their CONSULT III to diagnose the problem?

The red light on the dash does not come on when the key is turned over. The key was programmed by the Nissan dealership with the original ecm in it. The car is showing no codes. Check engine light does not come on. The dealership pulled no codes as well.
