BEST JWT CAMS FOR A NON BUILT DE (non revup) for TRACK USE
Hi, Need some advice...
Help me to choose between JWT camshafts please!
My car is a ‘03 Nissan 350Z - VQ35DE 280hp ( non revup ). It has already a plenum spacer, stillen headers following a full open single race exhaust. It has also K&N dropin filters and a custom remap but otherwise stock engine, stock intake, stock throttle body... It’s important that it is a RACECAR only , I’m racing in the national time attack series, so 100% track use ( using rpm range from 4500 - 7000 ). I would like to buy a set of cams which give me some power for this rpm range. I dont want to build the engine so prefered cams which working well with stock internals and heads.
S1 ? S2 ? C2? C8? Am I think right, that the C8 cams would be the best choice for me ?? Are they still work well on the stock heads / stock pistons, without any clearing issues? Just need a set of JWT springs, and go ?
Thanks!

do you have any power restrictions?
I'd research what Sasha / On Point did on his build - obviously you're not looking to go as far as he did but quite possibly the most intelligent VQ builder/tuner the car has seen.
I'd also give JWT a call because they'll know best. It may be the C8 but there may be a better / more balanced cam that'll do more for you. Eitherway, they'll know best.
I'd also factor in tuning after you've installed these cams.

Are the C8 works perfectly with the stock pistons and heads? Yes I know that a remap will be neccessary after installing them.

I'm running the C8 cams in my n/a build. I have 3 track events under my belt now. (HPDE)
I have Z1 Motorsport's stage 2 heads with these cams, head work, and JWT springs. My bottom end is all stock except for the Nismo oil pump. If you want to rev to 7k or more, you will want to upgrade to revup oil pump, as a bare minimum.
If you want to make power at 7k, or even past that, then you will need significant port work on the lower plenum. You can do what I did, and swap in the Revup lower plenum, or if you have the money, Kinetix Velocity manifold. Or even a one-off custom manifold.
With your setup, if all you do is swap in the C8 cams, with no other supporting mods, you can expect to make around 290 whp. I made 300 whp with full bolt on's.
I have a dyno video here with dyno sheet. Power drops off after 6200 rpm due to non-revup lower plenum. After the dyno, I swapped in the revup lower plenum, added a velocity stack and 6" filter to the intake, and also, port & polished the upper plenum to mirror finish. And a Stillen ground kit for whatever difference that will make.
First, a WARNING for headset users... this is quite loud! Also, feel free to ask any questions you have at all. The only reason I would stop typing is because my fingers hurt. lol

what did you tune with? how's your idle with the C8? port & polish on the lower plenum - did you do anything to the manifold?
Good stuff!

Looks like you need to skip to 3:04 of the video here

Save your money for a supercharger or something cheap FI.
You get most of that 300whp from a good tune. Most guys with breather mods on DE's get around 265-280whp from a tune. That leaves you 30-20hp for $1,200 + install with cams.
DE's are terrible NA if you are trying to go for power. They love FI. HR's on the other hand are NA beasts and gain crazy numbers for NA.
Again I vote heavily for save that $1,000 and invest it into a super charger or cheap TT kit.

^I bet OP is limited to an NA engine.
I've 'heard' the opposite ... the VQ is much better NA engine than a FI engine all things considered...and...with that being said, any engine is going to improve with a little forced induction.
Compared to a JZ, EJ , 4G/4B or LS, the VQ (IMO) doesnt do as well ... and this is coming from a guy who loves his VQ and will keel over in his grave before an LS is dropped in his z.
interested in what youre thinking and/or others have to say...

To address this specifically, I haven't personally driven an FI z, however I love the immediate throttle response of my z. My last track day was spent wondering whether I'd cooked the fluid in the rear diff, and not chasing boost leaks. For track duty, N/A is the way to go.

I'd say something around the 272/10.5 range for specs. I run Tomei cams and springs on a stock bottom end, nismo oil pump, kinetix velocity, nwp throttle body, admin 3.5" intake, GT-R injectors, walbro 255, momentum headers, motordyne tdx2, z1 clutch/flywheel, and a decent plethora of other supporting mods.
Made 304whp/280wtq with stock heads (other than the cams/springs) all the way to right at 7800rpm without any dropoff hardly at all.

Is there much difference between the C8 272 cams and the Tomei's 272 (I know the lift is different but I'm not entirely sure on how that plays out).
Cheers for any insight !
EDIT:
Well, I bought the C8's - hopefully arriving next week for my Christmas engine refresh.
