So my hr recently decided to die on me while I was driving, normal driving but when I pushed the gas the engine bogged but it kept on running until I pulled over and tried to start it it would only crank but no start. Fuel pump was priming. After letting it sit for a few hours and taking it home I tried starting it and now it starts but idles very low <500 then dies after about 10 seconds. If I give it gas at all it dies immediately. I'm thinking it could be the cam position sensors, but before I spend the money on those any other ideas? Already tried ecu relearn and checking for vacuum leaks.

Not from what I can see no. I have a Bluetooth code reader but nothing is popping up surprisingly but by the time it says it's 100% done reading codes the car has died so there's a chance that it could be throwing out some codes.

You should be able to read existing codes(if there are any) without having to start the car. Turn your key to the 'on' position, but don't crank it. Then try.

Yeah no codes but I remember a day or two ago it threw out a p2a00 code so I cleared it and it didn't come back.

Sounds like a misfire due to lean from a vaccume leak, or too rich with fuel.

Or just bad gas

Any suggestions on what to do? I don't think it's bad gas bc I filled it up with 91 from chain gas station and drove about 130 miles before it died.

Well first you have to figure out what the actual problem is. Which involves either getting your hands dirty (literally) or taking it to a mechanic.

Then we can start giving out options on how to fix the issue.

I'm more than willing to get my hands dirty. I just don't know where to go with the info I have. I see no vacuum leaks anywhere nothing cracked, the gas I'm using is good and the fuel pump is working. Where do I go from here?? I guess I could check if all my spark plugs are sparking but idk of anything else to do.

Try cleaning your MAF sensors, and check the condition of your air filters while you're at it.

I checked my air filters and they're fine. I'll grab some sensor cleaner and try cleaning them.

Update: so gave it another shot today and the car starts and starts to idle normally for one second before dying. Also allowed for me to blip the throttle but then dies right after. Cam position sensors??

Just found this tear on the intake tubing connecting to the throttle body. Could this be the culprit?

Yup that's 100% it I'm sure.

Vac leak past the MAF. You're engine is sucking in air it's not mean to have.

Fix that and I bet you fix your issue.

Looking at where it is on the tube, I don't think that would cause a leak. Then again I'm probably wrong. I would change it regardless and go from there.

I tried patching it with electrical tape and putting the clamp over that but the car still doesn't run same symptoms still. I'll try buying a new tube and see what happens from there but it looks like it should've sealed with the electrical tape and the clamp over that.

Do you hear a whistle? Air leaking from it?

That will very well make a difference because it's after the MAF so the engine won't account for the leak it has. If a pin hole in a gasket can cause a vac issue, a big crack right next to the TB will do it.

I haven't tried listening to it since I've always sat in the while it ran. I'll look at it further today

Bad cam and/or crank sensors typically throw a code, as well as illuminate the SLIP/TCS lights for the duration... Did you try cleaning your MAF sensors yet?

Update: car started up and runs amazing after replacing the fuel pump.
