Tuning question
So my buddy in his 07 Mustang GT is going to get his car dyno tuned Saturday. I was wondering, would that be just as good route to go to have my 350z tuned instead of going with UpRev? Plan to drop more mods on before I tune.

You will need some sort of tuning platform ... meaning Uprev, Haltech, ProEFI, Link, UTEC...I dont know of any ecu flashes/hacks/shareware/open source tuning for the z platform.
Your most economical option and widely used option will be Uprev and it'll support quite a bit up into a mild to moderate turbo build.
With that being said if you are looking to add intake / exhaust bolt-on mods consider doing them before purchasing a tuning solution (uprev/haltech/link) as bolt-ons installed on an otherwise OEM engine will yeild minimal results.
Let us know how your buddy's mustang GT does ... roll some video / snap some pictures

I can't speak for the mustang's ECU setup but he probably has something in place (SCT, Diablo, HP, etc.) or has a method to accessing the OEM ECU/maps where he can modify them without an aftermarket tuning device.
My guess w/o knowing much about his mods ... he'll be in the 310 to 320whp range after his tune...

Mods are: cam, some type of tune, (we think for a nos setup), headers full exhaust borla attak. Lowering springs. Air raid intake, performance ignition coils.

I'll revise ... maybe into the 320whp to 330hp range ...
the car is +/-3500lbs / 340whp = 10.3lbs/whp ... ehhhh nothing to write home about

Quick question I finished installing all my mods(plenum spacer, high flow cats, motordyne mid pipe, cai) ready for my tune I talked to a local company that can do the tune at the tune of 700.00 I'm assuming dyno-pulls included I'm told they already have there own licensing with Uprev reasoning for the pricing was just wondering if I purchased my own cable from Uprev I'm pretty savvy with a computer what is the difficulty level of doing it myself just would like a few opinions of what some of you have done once you got to this point would love for Mic V to chime in on this!!

Well, I'm not Mic, but here's my $0.02. What you're paying for with a tune from a shop is not only the dyno time, but the skill and experience of the tuner. By starting from scratch, you'll be paying for a lot of dyno time as you learn, you'll also be figuring out the software and the myriad of tuning options. A good tuner will already know how to utilize all the tools, and will understand how they interact together. It'll cost you way more than $700 to understand and learn enough to complete a comparable tune.

If you've tuned cars before than you'd be ok ... but if you're new to tuning and dont have a background in it than I'd leave it to the shop. Furthermore, to do it right, you need a dyno which is going to cost you $100 to $150 per hour and I'd estimate you'd need 2hrs to 3hrs of dyno time.

so is uprev just a software that the tuners use? A friend of mine with an 04 mustang gt has an sct tuner thing in his car and he uses that to get his tunes. Does the 350z ecu not need anything like that?

UpRev Osiris is a software tuning suite that is used for Nissans. UpRev was able to break the Nissan programming code and allow tuning directly to the factory ECM. Not sure what SCT does for other makes, but there are few tuning systems that can work within the sophisticated software that Nissan employs.
