Smile 350Zs at 2019 SCCA Solo Nationals

I'm going...

Running D Street, got my new tires mounted and ready to go. I've spent a lot of time over the last 18 months going through things on the car - shocks are still good, bushings seem good, engine seems good. I've seen a couple of other 350Zs registered.

Well, Solo Nationals don't necessarily require "qualifying" - but registering this year was an exercise in frustration (1000 entries in 90 minutes). However, I have found the "unfair advantage" in the 350Z, and know how to minimize the weaknesses.

Good luck at Nationals! Let us know how the unfair advantage works!

Interesting.... has it always been that way? I have never been much of an autocrosser so don’t follow at all. I was a roadie with the Runoffs requiring qualifying and “invitation” so to speak.

Whatever the case, good luck. And if you don’t have an in-car cam, my GoPro knockoff and mounts are all available since you’re in Silicon Valley.

I'll be there hoping for better luck (have had a string of mishaps and issues over the last few years at the big show). I'm not in a Z but I'll be running ESP in my HR-swapped G35 coupe.

What unfair advantage is there over the 1LE Camaro? For the Z I was thinking a Grand Touring '08 with a fresh VLSD would be as good as it gets for the Z (have been trying to get a friend to package convert her Z), but it's got some tough competition with all the other moves that happened.

It used to be you had to compete in a Divisional or Championship Tour event, which was a fairly low bar to begin with.

The ProSolo Finale requires some accumulation of season points to gain entry.

I'll have a collection of cameras and my Solostorm data setup on site, if anyone is interested in sharing data/video.

I started off the year with grand plans to hit the typical west coast Champ and Pro Solo events along with Lincoln in September. But life got in the way and we are buying a house so I decided to skip Nationals this year. I did go to Lincoln in May to run the Spring Pro and Champ events though.

After running the National scene the last 3 years, and going to Solo Nationals(first time) last September, I'm not sure I will go to the September event every year. The gap between the Pro and Solo events can be daunting depending on your run days. The venue is so good though.

2019 was my first year running the Pro Solo events and I am hooked. I will plan better for next year and with hopefully better driving will be able to qualify for the Pro finale. My Z has the cred, the driver just needs to step up...

Good luck to all who are going to Lincoln in September.

Skipping Solo nats this year in favor of Time Trials Nationals. Unless I change my mind at the last minute again (pretty sure I can nab a spot from a chief if I want it). Been feeling burnt out lately. Gonna be interesting to see how things play out in DS with all the recently added cars.

Well, the Z is lighter and smaller for one thing. NA vs. turbo. Pre-HR have a lower CG. Plus, I'm driving - that's got to be worth *something*.

OK, I changed my mind Wednesday night and registered for this years Solo Nationals. The wait list was only 8 deep so I thought why not. And Thursday afternoon I was notified that I was in.

So, I will be running in the STU class with a run group of 30 drivers. Maybe I can get the previous owner of the car to ride along at the TNT for some helpful tips...
