B'ham, AL - Header Install

Hey I am looking for someone to install my
headers around Birmingham, AL. I talked to
Shawn at AutolabZ and he said you have to
pull the engine out to get the headers on and
so it would be costing me about 700-800$.
if anyone knows of a reputable installer that
will do a good job and preferrably cheaper than
700$ please let me know!!

thanks

hes lying, you dont have to pull the motor to install headers, i know shawn, he just doesnt want to do it. they have installed a set, actually a guy named aaron did, and it took a long time and was more work than they had planned.

AUtigers350z Jan 7, 2006 10:46 AM

haha.
well, thats good to know you don't have to pull the motor.
and he had said he did it before and he would rather put
on a turbo kit than install headers on it. do you know who i
could get to do it then?

tig488 Jan 7, 2006 10:48 AM

you could try speedsouth,

installing headers is a major PITA, i dont blame shawn for wanting to pull the motor to install them, thats the reason i didnt buy headers, didnt want the headache. i think 5-700 is the going rate.

I would NOT go to Speedsouth. They will rape you then shoot you for their troubles!! I had, as much as I hate to say their name, Z1 Motorsports in Villa Rica, GA do my install. They charged $475 if I remember correctly about a year ago. And they DID NOT have to pull the engine. Also, Clint at Autolabz did my Vortech install and I will not have them do anything else for me. Something about 3 zip ties looped together holding a fuel line just isnt my kinda thing. Neither was my leaking oil pan spacer that they installed.

So far the only shop that has done work for me that I have thoroughly satisfied with is CP Racing, but Charlotte, NC is a long way to drive for a header install and they are fairly expensive.

I had mine installed at Crawfordz,in Nashville ,TN. I'm further south them you.
Mine was a crawford headers. they require to tilt the engine for install.
they did a great job. call doug(owner) at Crawfordz. i have close to 20k miles with it.

true speedsouth will rape you with their charges. i dont think clint works at autolabz anymore. i agree with zach, take it to CPR. hey did scott take his car to MD today for the HKS install?

Gumpdriver Jan 7, 2006 05:48 PM

I do not think Scoot has gone yet i was PM him earlier on driver. Question do you have to move the motor to install crawfords? If not i have a guy that will charge $400 here in Montgomery.

AUtigers350z Jan 7, 2006 06:59 PM

montgomery isn't a bad drive. i just want a good job
by someone who knows what their doing and isnt going
to break the bank to do it. i think i am gonna send them
in to get jet-hot coated first, then buy a y-pipe and get
it all installed at the same time.
thanks for you guys help

No, Clint no longer works at Autolabz. And, no Scott didn't take his car to MD yet. I think Lee and Jamie are taking it when they take Lees car next weekend. I was going to go with them, but I don't want to take 3 days of vacation from work to go.

For me, it will all depend on date and cost. I am working on finishing my MBA so that will take up some of my time. I have been wanting to rent out Talladega Grand Prix Raceway for a while. The cost for it is $1800 for a weekend day and $1000 for a week day. I need tires prior to doing any such event.

Also, a bunch of Z and G guys are going to ZDayZ in May. You should join us. Another thing, a lot of Z/G guys also meet up in Bham to watch the AutoX events at the Bham Race Course. Unfortnately, the ALSCCA has lost that venue, but they are working on finding another location in AL. We do a lot of things together. Check out our website www.alabamagz.com . Join and see what all we are about! There are a lot of great people on that forum.

is there any place around here that specializes in 350z's or someone who has a lot of experience with them that owns a shop somewhere in the southeast?

As NINJA-Z said, there is Z1 in Villa Rica but I don't really like them. They did my header install and screwed my exhaust up. It was clunking after the install and I mentioned it to them the day I picked it up and they said the would fix it. Well, they didn't!
