Are All 06 Manual Z's bad?

Hey Everyone,

I am very hot in the market for my first Z. My price point is $24000 and under. I am looking furiously as I have gotten the most out of my college car as I can and it's time to buy ASAP.

I have seen a few great deals on 06 manuals. I am also learning through this site that there is a big problem with oil consumption on the high rev motors. Does that mean that they are all untouchable. I don't want my first Z to have problems and go through the frustration that alot of people have had.

Thanks

Oh, and if anyone comes across a good deal in Florida(I'm in Sarasota by the way) I'd appreciate any deals you guys see or know about. I'm open to anything but a base model and a warrenty is important to me too.

If you are skilled you can get an 07 base inside of your budget.

although there are a lot of people with the problem, it's certainly not as big of a deal as it seems.you only hear about the problems because that's the only time someone is likely to post.

Nissan is replacing engines. Even if you buy one and it burns oil it shouldn't be a problem. It's a whole engine swap so the possibility of complications isn't bad at all.

Also, 2006 owners who have the new motor are reporting that it isn't burning oil.

I wouldn't worry about it. However, if you can swing an 07 with the HR motor, do it.

If I were to get an 06 and have the misfortune to get one that's burning oil wouldn't there be a strong possibility that I'd have to fight and jump through hoops to get the new v2 engine?

No, you'd just have to do a couple of oil consumption tests with Nissan. They know there is a problem and they're dealing with it.

I've got an 06 Base 6MT here, no issues, and just hit the 1 year mark.

Buy an 05. Then, instead of having your engine replaced, it's only the transmission ;).

I'd take my chances with an '06 over '05, at least then you get the redesigned headlights.

tight350z Nov 10, 2007 07:19 PM

iv got an 06 base 6mt...no oil consumption issues...

RBlover69 Nov 11, 2007 07:16 AM

there bad to the bone

Olivia Nov 11, 2007 07:19 AM

06 base 6MT... no oil consumption problems here.

Steve-O Z33 Nov 11, 2007 11:19 AM

Add oil if you need it. I add MAYBE 1 qt. per month. It varies. I see it as standard maintenance on a sports car. It's really not that uncommon if you talk to people with other makes.

06 base MT here and I have not had any problems so far. I have had my car for over a year now also.

got an 06 in May 2006.... replaced engine in Feb 2007. 2 oil changes in and it looks like I need a new engine. Was missing 2 1/2 quarts at oil change.

CRXtoZ Dec 4, 2007 05:02 AM

06 Base MT owner. Oil consumption problems. Car eating 3 quart oil between oil change. Brought the car in yesterday for a engine replacement.

I just changed over to synthetic, in 5w30, so I'll be watching closely. Was using conventional oil in 10w30 and didn't have any issues.
