Optimal launch RPM's?

Hey everyone, I'm also a fairly new Z owner, have a 07 Touring that I've had for about 6 weeks. Just hit 1500 miles in it so I think it's time to really push it some ;-)

So I really have 2 questions:
- What is the best launch RPM to not smoke the tires but also not bog down at all. I've found that about 3500 is pretty good but am I wrong?

- How terrible is it to smoke the tires every now and then? I know it's obviously going to shorten the tire life, I don't care so much about that - I can always buy more tires. But is it just terrible on the drive train and clutch? Some kid was next to me in an old Firebird the other day and I really wanted to let him have it...

Yes, yes, I know I should be more responsible than that but I know me, I'll have to smoke someone at some point ;-)

Thanks,

Ross

3500 is good, also a little burnout here and there will never hurt anything.

I launch mine at 3500RPM as well.

Thanks guys, one other question. When launching do you just drop the clutch or are you slipping it some? My order of importance is treating my car well so it will last and then driving like a maniac second.

Those two don't really match much do they? Good thing I have another car that I don't care about to treat like crap huh?

Thanks as always guys...

Ross

lol is your clutch stock?
You can try slipping for better results, but like you said it's not all that good for the clutch lol..
I have race clutch so I can't really slip in the first place anyway;)

Uh, yeah, I'm all stock right now. I'm working on my first mod now, in-car PC but that really has nothing to do with this now does it? :-) See I'm a total car newbie - I'm really a tech guy so CarPC is right up my alley...

Be a while before I get into real mods, been wanting TT since the day I bought it...

Slipping the clutch provides best launch. Just don't do it too much..
