Default 2017 Accident on Road to HPR

The news tonight carried tragic news of a two vehicle accident on CR-36 near Byers, CO. This is the two lane road that goes north of I-70 and leads to High Plains Raceway. This crash resulted in two deaths and a grassfire from the ensuing debris, and should serve as a warning to stay frosty on the way to and from this popular circuit. Despite a 65-MPH speed limit and heavy truck traffic, there's not much room for inattention or mistakes.

Three years ago (on the way to a race), I witnessed the aftermath of a similar accident. A 1/2 ton truck and a tractor trailer crashed near a bridge and the shunt reminded me that the tow to and from a racetrack can be every bit as dangerous as what happens on it! Take care out there, folks.
