i've read that fighting a pacing ticket is THE toughest to fight, even more so than laser simply because the officer does not require any type of training to read a speedometer.

anyone know any specific site that will tell you how far an officer has to pace you before being able to accurately determine your speed?

and also, is there a set distance/period that a cop needs to pace you before he can give you a tix?

well, as far as my ticket is concerned, this is what I have done so far:

-extended the trial date from 050405 to 061305.
-as of yesterday, under the California Public Records Act, requested the following information:

-officer's daily log (this hopefully gives me an idea of how many tickets he handed out that day as well as a timeframe)
-officer's training records for past 12 months for traffic enforcement training
-calibration of speedometer
-technician's training records who calibrated the speedometer
-copy of the front and back of the ticket he gave me (cops normally write notes on the back of the ticket immediately after a traffic stop so they remember the details. I hope to use some of this info in my defense)
-vehicle maintenance

you can call the CHP dispatch center and request the officer's first name to help in your request. I've also been told you can request the officer's vacation days (tell them you want to make sure you don't schedule a court date that he is on vacation and they may give it to you).

i doubt I will get all the records I requested, but it doesn't hurt and may even help should they choose not to provide the information.

once all that is taken care off, do a trial by written declaration. and as a final resort, you can always cite the vehicle code that allows for you to take traffic school (search CA DMV)

my ticket wasn't automatically eligible, but it is your right to request traffic school.

knowing the power we have under our hood, there should be a sticky on how to fight traffics (speeding) tickets. BMW forums have one, so should we.

i BSed a declaration letter and it got thrown out :)
