I'm a believer....

Ok, after being on My350z for a couple of years and reading through tons of forums I finally got the plenum spacer (motordyne 5/16) -After all the arguments, the mishaps and misconceptions of what it "really" does I bit the bullet and picked one up from Andy@Performance...

While having my HFC's installed by Gilbert @ Status in Hermosa Beach, we decided to drop the spacer in.

One word.... WOW...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I feeling like I'm driving a super car now. But with this, the Crawford HFC's, Nismo Exhaust and Pop-Charger, I do feel a difference...

I'm sure after getting a tune it will be even nicer...

No flaming, as I know this is nothing "new" ... But to think that that small piece of metal was able to make a difference... wow.

Thanks for reading...

Photo of my car just for the hell of it...

sounds good then i might have to be lookin into this a lil more.. i have a injen CAI, i heard it doesnt work as well with that..? true?>

You know what, I also noticed a difference with my Power Lab 3/8 Plemum Spacer. Though I will say the biggest change would be at higher speeds, the car does pull harder.

*edited: removed extra "to" lawl

wierd, I didnt notice any improvement when I was N/A . The only mods I really felt was UR pulley and true dual exhaust with testpipes.

the big difference that you felt is because of the HFC

i was going to say the same thing. its hard to determine where the extra power is coming from if you put a mix of mods at once.

but ur right, i felt a slight difference in power when i put my spaacer in, especially at higher rpms.

i spoke to a nissan mechanic and he says after time, the gasket starts to leak is that true?

gsazabi Mar 8, 2008 11:11 AM

I told you that you would like it!

Myfirst06350Z Mar 8, 2008 12:11 PM

my spacer and plenum got me 12whp and 28tq. I can't complain either. But yea the HFC is what made more of a diff imo.

Obviously there has to be "something" to the plenum spacer (whatever the gains of letting every cylinder breathe the same) or Nissan wouldn't have incorporated the new plenum in the 07. I mean they went out on a limb to create a bulbous hood. It's really a manufacturer listening to its market.

I was going to say the same thing. I am sure the cats play a huge role in my untapped power, but to think of something which is basically a thick gasket to produce such results... Wow...

i dont know about that... i just put on some Berk HFCs yesterday and i dont feel a difference... maybe a little more torque in the lower rpms

EDIT: I do LOOOOVE the sound though :)

ARMSTRONGARMS Mar 8, 2008 09:52 PM

Motordyne FTMFW!!!!! HFC's should add a noticeable gain also.

ginobetterfly Mar 9, 2008 11:25 PM

hey guys.. im thinking i might cruise over to Status and put this thing on... i have a 5AT (like the OP), so im only interested in the spacer, and not the plenum...

my question is (and yes i did some researching):
Are there any reliability issues with this spacer? I feel like it really hasnt been addressed at all... Is this thing completely safe for the motor, given a proper install?

I thought you had 6MT? I guess not.
Reliabilty? I've had it on my car for almost three years now and never had a single problem.
Also a million other Z owners have this and I haven't heard of a SINGLE problem..well unless you install it wrong and therefore have vaccum leak.

yeah i gots 5at...

im just super paranoid when it comes to my car... especially modding it.... my berks are making this rattling raspy noise when im on it in the higher rpms and im soo nervous when i hear it loool

but yeah seems like the spacer is a safe enough mod...

I did the same thing - Spacer vs. New Plenum.... I ended up with a proven upgrade versus something that may fail on me.

I let Status do the install for lack of power tools and time... Hey, if I had the proper tools, I'm sure this is just a set above installed a pop-charger.

spider310 Mar 10, 2008 09:33 AM

what did they charge?

small fyi, theres no need for any power tools; and as for the tools you may be missing (torque wrench) you can get loaned for free at a car shop (pepboys). All you need for this install is time and a little skill.

Myfirst06350Z Mar 10, 2008 10:50 AM

I'll install these for cheap whoever wants it done. I have seen some places charge up to $180 to install which is rediculous.
