SoCal's Best Drives
So being as I'm somewhat new to the SoCal / L.A. area, I've been looking for some nice drives.
I have recently been frequenting Mulholland drive, and Topanga Canyon, but curious if you guys know of others. I've been told "GMR" is a good one, as well as Angel's Crest. |
For long trips the 101 and 1 are nice also I miss having spirited drives up Turnbull Canyon road and going up/down most mountain roads (Big Bear) in SoCal are a blast!
|
There is a WIDE 4 lane highway that I took with some friends on the way to Crestline, I believe it was called, and I can't seem to find what the road was, but i was awesome, and for the most part it was nicely paved.

I was up in Angeles Crest this past Sunday. I didn't see a single CHP. Roads are nice, just have to watch out for gravel and pine cones here and there. I thought the scenery was nice and there are a lot of turn outs which makes for good photos. There is a restaurant up there called Newcombs Ranch and that was my turnaround point.
I've also thought Azusa Canyon was a nice drive, though I haven't driven too far up since the only times I've been on that road was for hikes. You can also catch Stunt Road coming from Mulholland Highway, and Old Topanga Canyon from Mulholland Highway for a detour back onto Topanga Canyon. |
GMR is pretty awesome but watch out for bikes.
|
The "snake" on Mulholland isn't even enjoyable because there are so many bikes, and I don't want to be the guy who takes one out. Those guys ride like they own the road and have no respect for other drivers it seems like.
When there are alot of bikers, I just park and enjoy, not worth the risk of hurting someone, even thought it wouldn't be my fault. |
A day trip to San Diego for these roads is worth while:
Engineer's Road: http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/15...eers-Road.html Palomar Mountain: http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/11...tain-Loop.html Or Malibu Canyon's Stunt Road http://motorides.com/ride/298-stunt-road.html |

If anyone is down to do any of these. I'm preparing my car for some serious canyon drives next month.
Brakes have been serviced oil change and all fluid flush tires and other minor adjustments I moved to L.A. roughly 2 years now, and realized I've yet to really experience it. Discovered how beautiful the country side is outside of L.A. |

Canyon runs
If you're interested there's a meet called the Z Bash. It's this Saturday on 4.26 starting at 6:30am at cars and coffee. Going to Santiago canyon at 7:45 and after that they will be going to the z store to do dynos and more fun things (:
Great opportunity to meet new people! On Sunday there's going to be a cruise through Ortega canyon also! Come out if you can |
I'd totally be down for that if I could have the car together by then. Money is tight this month and yada yada life, lol.
I've recently been doing the Mulholland stretch between the 101 and 405, and that is pretty intense and a roughly 15 mile drive |
