Do the cops pull you over for no front bumper license plate?

Just curious, since I'll be moving back to H-town soon. Do the cops pull you over for no front license plate on the Z since most of them don't come with pre drilled holes for it? I know about the Zee bracket but I'd like to avoid it if possible and beyond that I don't even have my stock bumper on anymore so even my aftermarket bumper wouldn't work with a Zee bracket in the first place. I think. Anyways, let me know. thanks guys.

I think it depends on where you live and travel too... In downtown im sure they will be all over you... but around here (north east side of houston) i havnt had a problem..

Alright how about the south west side. westheimer and highway 6?

I read somewhere on this forum that the law changed 1/1/6 and the license plate on the front is no longer required. Haven't had a chance to research it.

? when i was in military my buddy and i were going to colorado in his mini/low rider truck from texas. we got pulled over by a state trooper for no front plate and we were just outside of colorado. He just gave a warning cause we were military but said to get the front plate back on. which i dont think my buddy ever did. but they can pull you over for anything, and i mean anything for probable cause, stupid sheit like liscense plate lights dim or not working, tint, even a cracked windshield. whether they would give you a ticket depends on the officer and or your record.

Not so! The only exemption for not having a front license plate on in the state of Texas is if your car is registered as a "classic car" which means it is over 25 years old! Makes my 240Z a lot sharper on the front end.

max255 02-18-2006 09:24 AM

well they havent stopped me in the northwest side. I drive a murano.

iceman21_23 02-18-2006 09:39 AM

they ussualy wont stop u just for no front plate but if ur acting suspicious it gives them a reason to pull u over but most likely they wont just pull u over for it.

Well I had an alternative in case I do need one, since the Zee bracket won't work with my aftermarket bumper I was going to use 4 suction cups and put them on the license plate on the inside right under the rear view mirror in the center. It may look a little cheesy but it's better than me drilling holes in my new bumper. Besides I will still be able to take it off easily without the use of zip ties. =)

A clause that was a a part of the license plate law banning covers and any other items (including license plate frames) that obscured viewing the letters on any Texas license plate (including the bottom logo: THE LONE STAR STATE, says that the front license plate must be mounted on the front of the car - effectively making it illegal to mount a front license plate inside the front window. This law was passed September 1, 2004.

ARMSTRONGARMS 02-19-2006 08:01 AM

if your not doing any illegal activities, i wouldnt worry about it. and if you get stopped and say/ticket you for it, get it mounted, then take it to the station to show you complied, and they'd probably throw ticket out, just make sure your not an azzhole when you get pull'd over, and you should be alright. they have better things to worry about, and would only use this as a way to check something out. it's easier to ask for forgivenss then permission, lol.

jdm_Z33 02-19-2006 08:56 AM

I see, well thanks for all your input brotha's. I'll do my best not to get pulled over lol.

I have never had a problem in Houston or Baytown. Now there are areas like Westhimer Rd in houston that were racing hotspots. A cop made a u-trun and stopped my friend in his T/A. The officer said this was a zero tolerance area and recived a ticket for no front plate. He said leave and do not return.

I believe "classic car" is considered 10 years or older. At least that's what my insurance agent told me last week.

mchong75 02-21-2006 05:45 AM

I got pulled over 2 years ago for now having front plates at Plano TX.

buho62 02-21-2006 05:45 AM

Too many freaking laws for a "free" country!

Relentless23 02-23-2006 08:43 PM

i got pulled over 3 months ago on grand parkway by a state trooper for no plate on my z. he simply gave me a warning and let me go. he did say that i did have to put a front plate on though, but never did.

Aeromike03 02-23-2006 08:46 PM

I'm in DFW, and I've only ever been given a ticket for no front license plate as an add-on ticket on top of another offense. I've never been stopped just for that. Once a motorcycle cop added it on for the 'trouble of catching up to me.'

All you have to do is mount it, bring it to the judge, and have it dismissed. Doesn't cost a dime. I bought a Zee bracket for just such an occasion. Screw it on for the court date, and back off when you get home.
