I'm ready for a NA reflash. Should I get high flow cats first?
 

I have all the mods in my sig. I now need/want a reflash. I was waiting for Cobb to release their tuner but at this rate it may never be released. I thought about a Utec but I can't justify the price for the minor mods I have. Plus I don't feel like driving 10 hours to get it tuned.

I've read a lot of good thing about Technosquare's reflash on N/A cars. That is what, I think, I am going to do.

My question is should I bother getting high flow cats before the reflash? Will they make a noticeable difference in perfomance over the stock cats?

HFC or TP's are one of the biggest things that change AF ratios..so if you're going to get them, IMO do it before the reflash. Since you're on the East coast, why not have Altered Atmopshere do the Re-flash for you? (that's where I got mine done...great guys and service)

i totally aggree with first350--- from what we've noticed with the cars that come in for flashes at technosq is that the high flow cats tend to alter afr almost as much as plenums do.

I may check out AAM but I've read/heard better things about technosquare. I know technosquare has been doing reflashes longer.

Driving to AAM to have it reflashed on the dyno is a good idea but I don't like the 7 hour drive and the additional $385.00 charge.

I've had my car dynoed a few times locally and I plan on getting it done again before I send out the ecu for a flash.

I just need to find out if high flow cats are worth the expense and added noise.

I did the same thing when I sent my ECU to AAM. I had it dynoed as is, sent in the ECU w/ the dyno sheet and list of mods, then re-dynoed it when I got the ECU back...the AF's were perfect. From reading through these forums, both AAM and TS are good companies...I went w/ AAM b/c I've dealt w/ them in the past for lots of other components and their customer service is top notch. If you go through with this, please report back with a reveiw (and possibly before/after dynos)!

TP's make a huge difference, but the smell and noise are a reason why not to get them...seems like HFC would be a good compromise.

I'd go with Technosquare...I've dealt with AAM and believe me, they don't operate above board.

:icon43: ...not sure what happened between you and AAM, but all I can say is that I've really enjoyed working with Mike and Dave from AAM and that I've always been given great service and quick turn-around times (I'm in the Seattle area, so customer service is even more important to me b/c I can't deal w/ them face-to-face...) Have you tried talking w/ them - hopefulll it's just a misunderstanding.

I was probably the first car to get flashed by AAM back in the fall of 2003. Got dyno proven gains, and Mike and the guys stayed till 11 PM to make sure the car was running great.

I since upgraded to a UTEC, and got even further gains.

Why does everyone hate the smell of exhaust with no cats? It reminds me of old school muscle cars :icon17:

The smell isn't the issue for me. It is one of the reasons I won't get test pipes but not the main reason. I have an 05 and I've read a lot of post about people with 04.5 and newer having problems with CEL and test pipes. Even with non foulers installed. Plus I don't want the exhaust note to be too loud and raspy.

That is why I'm not sure if I want high flow cats. I like the way my exhaust sounds now. I don't want it too much louder. I could stand it being a bit louder but not much. I only drive my car on nice days with the top down. If I owned a coupe the noise may not be as big of a deal.

you want HFC...they are not too loud at all! It will sound the same as your current set up at idle then become pure blis as you press the throttle:)

I've got an '05 w/ the non-fouler trick...no problems w/ it so far. As far as it being louder, I would almost say that the roadster would be quiter b/c it sounds like the interior of the Z coupe almost resonates the exhaust sound inside the interior!

Definitely get the HFC's and then reflash after.

I say utec myself, as you continue modding it'll just grow with it. But thats just me. AAM is great choice, and since they're located in maryland, turn around time should a little bit quicker..
