Dyno Vs Mail Osiris Tune

I know how you guys get and I'm not the best with forum stuff i searched didn't really find anything.

what would be the main issues if any with mailing in my ECU to get my Osiris tune as opposed to going in and getting it dyno'd, besides not seeing my gains from my bolt ons?

Anything i should worry about its a difference between $200 and saves me from one hell of a drive.

PLEASE BE HELPFUL THEN YOU CAN BASH.:dunno:

AT LEAST VOTE

Iirc, UpRev will tune your mail-in based on the specifications you send them about your Z, including your bolt-ons. Of course it won't be tailored perfectly but it should work well.. they have years on years of experience.

Dyno tuning is always preferred because the tuner can really take their time with your Z and really get the true maximum performance based on its current modifications.

Will it make that much of a difference though? As of now and before i get it i will have had Dual intake, HFC's, Hks true dual, and maybe Plenum spacer. wouldn't it be simple enough being they've worked with so many Z's?

pyshin 01-30-2014 04:48 PM

Wait... a plenum spacer for an HR Z? Those don't exist.

Honestly it should be fine imho, but I'll let someone who has actually received and run on a mail-in tune chime in... I've always gone to a tuning shop.

Ragusa350z 01-30-2014 04:52 PM

Thanks man! but maybe i was thinking of Mrev not plenum spacer, I'm no expert.

pyshin 01-30-2014 04:59 PM

Those also don't exist for VQ35HR's. Learn something new every day. Good luck

Ragusa350z 01-30-2014 05:00 PM

Lmao damn.. and that why i need opinions not just views on this damn thread

It's been half an hour. Patience is a virtue

OP, it's all up to you in the end anyways...If you're going to go through and get your Z tuned, you might as well go and get it dyno tuned...

i know that is overall better but i just want to know whats the major difference and if its that worth it. I'm not going for major hp i don't really need my output at this time.

knuckles899 01-30-2014 09:36 PM

I think the main difference is that a mail tune won't adjust timing just a/f targets as a full Dyno tune the tuner will be adjusting timing to squeak out more HP.....I'm no expert or tuner though and may be wrong.

Depends what you have on your car. If you have just the basic bolt-ons you then should be fine with a mail tune. Not as efficient as with dynotune though. Just a matter of justifying its cost.

If you have upgraded your engine with different pistons, head works, etc then a dyno-tune is highly recommended so you can squeeze the most out of your mods.

I am assuming you got the basic breather bolt-ons so I voted mail-tune. Decision is up to you.

Actually I am in the process of getting my engine re-built and I'm upgrading my cylinder heads - cams, port & polish. I got an ECU with Uprev Mail tune from Z fever so I can run the engine with at least a better tune than OEM, but will do dyno tune in the future.

I will let you guys know how well my mail uprev tune performs once the build is done.

RAGSUSA ur like 20 mins from a great tune shop JDS MOTORS why not check them out JAS and POPS will take care of u I just had my z tuned about a month ago and am very happy with the tune only took a couple of hours

hmm what tune did you get, or do they just do a custom tune.? and how much was the cost? what bolt ons do you have and what were the hp gains after?

blue350zed 01-30-2014 10:36 PM

You won't see huge gains with a tune on those bolt ons, but in my opinion, it's always good to go to a dyno for a couple reasons. One: you do get to see before and after results and Two: they will be able to maximize your modifications.

travlee 01-31-2014 02:39 AM

on my hr, with all my mods and then tune i only got 18 whp, but it is more fun to drive. the hr is already a great engine so it is hard to make it any better. like pyshin said there are no plenum spacers or manifolds for the hr.

i would suggest a dyno tune so that you get the most of your car

cocobrotha76 01-31-2014 04:02 AM

I got the uprev tune I saw about a 28 rwhp gain and it gave it a better power curve power straight thru the rpms especially in the mid range is where I notice it mostly, the cost was $600 and came with 5 maps trust me its worth the $$$. My mods where intake, spacer, and full exhaust.

DarkRain0660 01-31-2014 05:09 AM

A mail in tune will be sufficient if your dying to put your bolt-ons on and don't want to ride around with your engine running a little more lean ( except with fuel components) with each install ( which is not good to do) but eventually you'll want a dyno tune or your just screwing your self out of the "full" potential of the parts you spent your hard earned cash on. It's really up to you wanting to spend the money on the mail right because in the end every modified vehicle needs some time with a tuner on a dyno IMO.

Deteria 01-31-2014 05:42 AM

Dyno tune all the way. Every motor is slightly different, and the mail-in tune is just generic fit for your mods. Dyno will be more accurate and should render the most optimal performance (granted if your tuner does it right).

Only reason you should really be considering mailing in is if you don't have a reputable tuner near you. Having bolt-on mods without a tune is ok. The car will simply run a lil lean, and you lose some of the maximum potential output across the rpm range.

x2 go for dynotune. I got mine tuned on mustang dyno that read a little lower than dynojet, but the tuner said are better than dynojet. Not sure why but that is what he said.
