Default D.I.Y. cold air intakes. Opinions?

Let me start this off by saying that this is my first day on the forum so give me a break. Please continue reading.
Btw don't mind my ugly heat wrapped upper pipes.. I removed that trash

This project will convert your hot air sucking SRI's (Stillen, Injen, etc) into horsepower producing monsters. Not really, but you get the idea. Maybe you purchased your Z with short rams previously installed or you are simply looking for an upgrade… I purchased my 35k mile HR with stillen g2’s already installed, but I didn’t want to purchased a set of long tube g3’s. Overall, this project will cost you about $100

What you will need:

2x: Spectre 3inch 90 degree bend intake pipes ($10 each at O’Reilly’s or Autozone)

2x: Spectre 3inch by 6inch long intake pipes ($10 each at O’Reilly’s or Autozone)

2x: 2.5 to 3inch spectre reducer/coupler ($10 each at O’Reilly’s or Autozone) (save the reducer.. you’ll need it)

4x: 3 to 3.5 inch hose clamps from auto zone ($4 total)

1x:4-PLY 3" ID 1-METER TURBO/AIR INTAKE/INTERCOOLER PIPING BLACK SILICONE HOSE/PIPE (eBay $37)

INSTALL:

CAREFULLY REMOVED THE BELLY PAN, FRONT BUMPER, AND CRASH BAR
  1. Remove air filters
  2. Cut two 15inch segments out of the meter of silicone tubing from eBay
  3. Insert silicone tube into the holes in the core support
  4. Place a reducer onto each side of your (stillen, injen, ect) intake, slide the 3inch silicone pipe over, and clamp
  5. clamp the 90 degree bend tubes to 3inch silicone pipes
  6. use the couplers to connect the 90 degree pipes to the 3inch x 6inch tubes
  7. reinstall filters
  8. Install crash bar (very tight squeeze), bumper, and belly pan
  9. DONE
Note: I removed two little metal brackets from the core support & ditched the foam that sits in front of the crash bar

Overall, this saved me a bit of cash and I’m very happy with the final outcome. @saul_nismo_knights is tuning my car and recommended I installed g3’s so I made my own haha. What do you think ?

Goodluck!!

you do realize that it is the middle of the day and people work... right?

anyway, i give ya props for it. if it is too tight of a squeeze, you could try longer thinner filters

Those plastic spectre pipes are TRASH. I've seen them get fragile/break apart on my buddies civic. Order anything else online. Autozone/auto part store piping/couplers are very expensive.

I've always thought intakes are so overpriced, specially the no-name ebay ones. You always have to modify something as parts don't ever fit well. I speak from experience on various cars.

Props for DYI

Hate to say it, nut Nissan did a good job with the CAI design. Test it back-to-back with either aftermarket or DIY CAI and you won't fing much difference on the dyno. Sorry!
