Velcro on the clutch mc cap
 

This was on the car when I bought it a year ago. I’m asssuming they had a problem with it coming off. Is this a known issue with HR models?

Trust me when I say this... that is NOT a factory part nor fix. I might be MicDaMouse but Nissan doesn't do that kinda stuff. My HR nor VHR never had an issue like that. Guess, as you probably surmise, loose cap or maybe they used it to hold a wire or something.

LOL, thanks Mic. I figured it wasn't factory, but was wondering why anyone would do that. Oh well, guess I'll see what I can come up with online. Maybe I should just get an aftermarket name brand mc that has a screw on cap.......

Mic's right, that's not factory. Also, it looks like your clutch fluid could use a change and the reservoir is overfilled.

Dirty little secret: A large syringe with about 9 inches of silicone aquarium tubing attached to it makes a great" suck the gunk out" device on the clutch fluid reservoir. I use it on mine every few months, and for some miracle reason, my clutch isn't giving me half the problems it used to. I use Valvoline Synthetic DOT 3 & 4 brake fluid. You could also bleed it as per FSM procedure and swear a lot. :)

Aftermarket (and oem) master cylinder reservoirs such as the wilwood have gaskets and simply press on. I would imagine it is a way to keep it in place without using a reservoir clamp.

Why it was used on your car have no idea.

To be clear Im talking about the base of the reservoir, not the lid.

In MicVelos case, his is pressed onto the base secured with a reservoir clamp, and zip ties. The OEM 350z uses a one-piece clutch reservoir with no base. So in your case the velcro probably serves no purpose.

I think I might know why people are putting velcro+zip ties around the reservoir+cap (besides holding on a reservoir base). I was also hoping someone can help me with my related question.
I just added some nissan super heavy duty dot 3 fluid to the reservoir b/c the fluid level was hovering at the "low" line. Now, I can't get the little black tabs on the cap to go back over the little clear tabs on the reservoir ( I could swear the little tabs on the cap were covering the little tabs on the reservoir, before I took it off).
I tried twisting it on, then after that failed, I tried pushing it on. I was supporting the reservoir with my hand during both attempts+using a decent amount of pressure. I stopped b/c i figured it was a good idea to stop+ask for help.
I watched a couple videos where people just push the cap on (without the black tabs on the cap twisting onto/snapping over the clear tabs on the reservoir), and that's it.
I'm afraid that even though the cap has a good seal (I could hear the suction of air coming out as I pushed the cap on), I'm afraid it will come off+the fluid will splash out of the reservoir+start eating paint. I'm also afraid that when I go to push the clutch pedal, the cap will pop off+fluid will be shot out of the reservoir like a super soaker. I didn't think about using zip ties b4 coming here, but I can see why someone (who doesn't know if the cap is under any pressure) would zip tie it on.
I know this might seem like a super short bus question, but I'm learning as I go. I greatly appreciate any help. I took a pic of my cap how it's currently sitting on the reservoir so you can see what it looks like now.
