why the new z can't be a 380Z?

Is it just me or doesn't it make more sense for the new Z to be a "380Z" instead of 370Z? I realize it's because of the new 3.7ltr vq, but not only does "380Z" sound better it would fit in better to what Z's have been called, hence "280Z" and not to mention a wee bit bigger motor 3.8ltr's. the nismo 380rs doesn't count.

NismoZ350 Apr 26, 2008 01:18 PM

Yeah, they should really have gone with the car with the name that's easier to say.

Yes, lets make a new engine because it "rolls off the tongue better". Send that one to the nissan corporation.

NISMO_558 Apr 26, 2008 07:32 PM

you guys suck, be a little more open minded

scmtkings4 Apr 26, 2008 07:38 PM

^^lol

CSF Apr 26, 2008 08:55 PM

doesn't matter how open minded we are...nissan's business decision to use their massed produced engine
but i guess it would have been more inline with the heritage

A 380z wouldn't be exactly hard to do; at least not much more different than designing it with a 3.7. I mean the 380RS already exists and the GTR has a 3.8 too. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch for them to use the 3.8 motor. Still, there hasn't been any confirmation on what the next gen Z will have so for all we know it will have a 3.8. It's only speculation that it will have the 3.7 from the G37 since the G35 shared the same engine with the 350z. I'd much rather see a 380z with an option of a detuned FI version. Give me a 380z with 380-400hp for 40k or less and that would be perfect.

Sco2355 Apr 27, 2008 02:01 AM

That's what motor swaps or built blocks are for.

If they are going to release it with a 3.7 liter then so be it. If you want a 3.8 liter so much just to call it a 380Z then wait for mods to come out so you can make it a 3.8 liter, or swap motors.

dieselmcore Apr 27, 2008 03:01 AM

they should throw a V8 in that sucker...

+1 Spot on!

They're going to take the most convienent, cost effective option- which is using their 3.7L. The difference in that little bit of displacement will be soooo insignificant..... in fact a 3.7 with maybe 2 cheap performance mods will have the same performance as a factory 3.8 anyway. Being bummed over a 3.7 or a 3.8 is a bit silly if you ask me, heritage or not.

I too wish they would slot a N/A version of the GT-R engine in the Z, not because it just sounds better though, disagree about a couple of bolt ons making the same power from the 3.7, Z should be head and shoulders above the G imo, Nissan are just being lazy!

Even though I have a G I do agree with this statement, however the "luxury" company has always had the either equal or better car. Think about it, Toyota had the Supra however the SC models from lexus were right there with it performance wise. Volkswagon and Porsche... no need to say more on that one.

The company will never let their overpriced cars for pompus people (yes I can at times fall under this catagory) be under par compared to their more common vehicles, again as I said before I wish that they would personally I love the Z's and if it was that much better of a performing car I would have one but until it makes that much of a difference Ill keep my backseat :icon38:

Netko350Z Apr 27, 2008 06:43 AM

I Like a 620Z...."A.k.a. LS3 swap"

Its more do with the market or what we get in the states than anything.. The asian and euro markets always get better models and or options. IE: Nismo 380rs, std nismo has different interior and exterior parts, M pkg's for most standard bmw's, GT3 (non rs) factory rollcage/race seats options etc.. etc... We always get less, but then again we pay less for our cars... ;)

VW and Porsche? 924 and 914 days maybe. But nowdays its more Audi and Vw, TT's and Gti's are basically the same car.

Imo Z's and G's have always been 2 totally different class of cars.. A pure sports car and lux sports coupe. And lets face the price of a similar optioned Z and G were always pretty close together. I look at the Z and G as just more options for the customer. Not as one is more superior (higher model) or not than the other.

Remember there is no Infiniti in japan and they are rivals with Bmw and audi so they needed more plush models in their lineup. Besides if Nissan didnt make the G/skyline then they wouldnt have a 2dr midsized coupe with 4 seats :D

The Z is what nissan/datsun were always known for(well that and the hachiroku). LOL sorry for the long winded post...

Nissan has a winner on their hands with the 350 and they want to keep it that way. And not repeat what happend with the prev Z...

It is...It's a Toyota Corolla GT-S a.k.a. the Trueno. Not Nissan.

And in Japan they do now have Lexus, Infiniti, ect. If I'm not mistaken a couple years back they actually opened our luxury branches there.

They always had Lexus as it was launched in japan with Infiniti launching in the US... The only asian countries that use the Infiniti brand name,at this time is korea, taiwan and china not japan.

Cadre Apr 27, 2008 12:28 PM

why not make a V8 instead of building extreme V6 motors?

Z04 Apr 27, 2008 01:27 PM

i think they should just get rid of the number crap and call them all Fairlady Z, since that is what they are
