I got to see this article that tested an HR Z to 13.1 or 13.3.....Those sound like preped dragstrip times.

I predict that it will disappoint. Low to mid 13s for 95% of drivers

Jeff, I will put that to the test my friend in a few months.
THe car will be cappable of sub 5 sec 0-60 and will run 13.0 in the quarter.
You will however have guys hitting 12.8 with alot of driving and good conditions.

Ok, everyone. Just because one guy this one time with perfect track and weather conditions just happened to get a 13.1 in the quarter mile, does not mean the 350Z is a 13.1 second car in real life. Geez.

The 350Z averages mid-high 13's in the quarter mile... this is representative of the car.

Just like if this one guy this one time with perfect track and weather conditions just happens to get a 12.8 in the quarter mile in a 370Z, does not mean the "370Z does 12.8 in the quarter mile".

On average, we see the 350Z right at mid 13s (and that's being nice)... and on average we will see the 370Z right at 13 flat.

Just for the "mental" boost, I bet Nissan worked hard to get the car into the 12's... But it doesn't mean it will be a regularly tested 12 second car. Not without 340+ HP and/or DCT.

Most tests will average it right at 13 - 13.1 seconds. Look at the power. Look at the weight. Heck, if anything, the 7AT might be the best bet to get it into the 12s.

I refuse to bench race, but will bring my speculation about the power output.

The G35 was the first to offer the 306HP engine, followed by the 06' 350Z rev-ups and the 05' anniversary editions. Now the G37 comes out first with the 3.7L engine, and is soon-to-follow on the Z34.

Is it unfair to think that stock 370Zs will make about the same power as stock G37s? It seems stock G37s are putting down about 275rwhp +/-10, so it doesn't appear practical that the new Z would put down 300rwhp and is supposed to be about 200-250# lighter than the Z33. Do the math - it will be much faster than an HR. Screw the 1320', give me the keys to one and let me take it down Laguna Seca's corkscrew.

That's what I'm expecting too. Similar (speculated) weight and HP. The 370z should have better gearing than the 6MT on the C5 but the C5 has more torque, so it's a toss-up. Nissan needs to release the specs so we can all stop holding our breath.

AJ, can't wait to see it; once it warms up next spring you'll have to let me try it out. Plus I'll be waiting to see what numbers you can put up at Milan!

No, bench racing is speculating about it's time. I simply said, given what Nissan has suggested and history with the G37, that it will be faster than an HR.

But anyway, it's physics. Look at the weight, look at the power. Unless something else drastically changes in the equation (DCT tranny), the numbers say about 13 flat.

If you're going to be "realistic," why not be truly realistic?

The average for HRs aren't low 13s, but mid to high 13s. With your sort of logic and given the general public's lack of experience in drag racing, the Z34 will be low to mid 13 second car. Again, the best of them will dip all the way down to 12.7 and trap as high as 110 mph, I'm guessing.

Never said the HR was a low 13 car... I know it's not.

Anyway, I'm talking about how fast the 370Z will be, not how fast 370Z drivers will be. And the capabilities of the car will be around 13 flat.

What is a car without its driver? The car doesn't drive itself down the strip to get the ET. Thus, your argument of "how fast 370Z drivers" has no valid point nor sound reasoning behind it.

Also, if you have as much experience as you claim to have, then you should know that it's not just the driver which makes a run seem "perfect." Ideally, I guess we should compare 0 DA times with various drivers (for an average of all runs calculated at 0 DA) for the DE to the HR's own to the Z34's own for the best comparison.

In the end, all of these speculations are personal estimates/bench races at best. Let's all agree on the fact that the Z34 will be noticeably faster than the previous Zs stock for stock, shall we?

All that fancy talk is way over my head. I live my life a quarter mile at a time. For those 14 seconds I am free!
