Default powdercoating stock wheels

i was thinking of powedercoating my stock 18" wheels, bc i wont be able to afford the set i want anytime soon.

could anybody photochop me up a few pics of a daytona blue with gunmetal / bronze / black / white wheels, so that i could see what my car would look like.

thanks.

Not able to help you, but am having thoughts along the same lines. I have a buddy that owns a shop with a powder coat paint line...and within 6months or so he will have the ability to paint my wheels with a finish I am sure will be second to none. Now too bad the stock wheels didn't come wider!

Wow....never thought I'd like the white...but not bad. Hey VQracer, could you do the same thing on a Silverstone and paint the wheels with a carbon fiber pattern? This is what I am considering...believe it or not it will look identical to carbon fiber and would be hilarious to see the rice groupies eyes pop when they see them.

Powdercoating your stock wheels is a bad idea .... here's why

A majority of high performance wheels, including your factory wheels, are heat treated for added strength and when the powdercoating process uses heat, which in turn, anneals the metal making it quite abit softer and more prone to bending. If you have ever seen a motorcycle gas tank fabricated you saw them anneal the metal making it softer so it can be formed. You will most likely bendthe wheels just re-installing the tires after you complete the powdercoating

DANM! Excellent post! So all our OEM wheels are wetcoated then? I guess that makes sense. At what temp. do you affect the hardness/softness of aluminum???

hmmm... i have a lot of friends with s2000's that powdercoated thier stock wheels. not one has had a problem with them after several thousand miles. but i guess the possibility of something happening is always there. thanks for the info i will keep it in mind when making my decision.

also thx for the photochops, vq.
