S03's or PS2's?
I need new tires for the street wheels.
Should I get another set of S03's or are the Michelin PS2's worth the extra $$$? The treadwear rating is the same... im hoping maybe they have some more grip to them tho? My S03s are too easy for me to spin. Thanks, -Charles |
i have the ps2 and i love em...from what i hear the S03 are extremely soft and will be very loud once the thread starts to wear down...imo, the extra $$$ is well worth it...

Neither -- Kuhmo ECSTA MX or BFG G-Force TA KD (not KDW).
S03's grip fine but are heavy as hell and the stiff sidewall rides like cr@p. PS2s are great, but are overpriced. Kuhmos are my choice since they grip will, wear well and are inexpensive. |
I had this same decisions 2 months ago. I ended up going with the ps2. They are very nice but pricey. As far as performance goes these tires are sticky but keep in mind that you still will spin them with no problem(especially with your monster). Im na right now and yes they did make my car feel more planted but i still can spin them. I dunno if next time i will go with ps2 just for the fact that ps2 are very pricey and i go through tires like crazy. i dont mind going a little less performance since i will save me a a good $500+. In all ps2 are the shizznit but being a daily driver like myself i dont think that extra $500+ is worth it since i put miles on my car. But if you have cash and you want the best then get them..just my 2 cents.

According to my research, those 2 prices are pretty much same at the tirerack.com
from my research, S03 doesn't grip well as PS2 in the rain. PS2 has better treadwear and better traction in wet surface. My personal opinion, S03 is good for CA people and PS2 is good for people live in all season area. I'm running F1 GS-D3 for good wet traction and treadwear (and aggresive tread design) |
PS2's if you have the money.
I'm hearing too much about how heavy and loud the S0-3's are... Is this true? |

S-03: F 225/ R 279 PS2: F 225/ R 275 (+free 50 Visa card gift when you buy 4) F1 GS-D3: F 224/ R 269 Ecsta MX: F 138/ R 191 From TireRack survey, PS 2 ranked 1st place, F1 in 2nd place, S-03 is in 3rd. Ecsta MX in 9th place. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/survey...ay.jsp?type=MP |
Charles, let us know what your wheel size is, which would be helpful because some tires do not make certain sizes.

Phunk,
That depends on what your emphasis is on. I'd venture to guess more straight line performance? :icon44: The S03 and PS2 (and Eagle F1 GS-D3) are all top of their class with respect to over road handling capabilities for which much is centered around lateral duties. They'll work admirably in street drag conditions, but that won't be their forte. The BFG TA KDs, that Skrill suggested are pretty decent straight line performer (for the street), however they are down right abysmal in the wets. |

yes that is correct. I wasn't implying the KDs sucked as a corner carver. ;) It's a better tool for going staright than the other big 3 pointed out.

i would have already bought the KD's if they came in 19's.. those have been my favorite tire for a while.
I am running 19 x 8.5 and 19 x 9.5, and I was looking at going with the 255/35/19 front and 285/30/19 PS2's... My SO3s are decent tires I think they feel extremely predictable in turns and at very high speed... but they cannot hold much acceleration power without spinning, and that is my only complaint. Right now I have 245/275 and they are bald... perhaps some brand new 285's will be just fine at holding the power. If I could at least hook up from 40 I would be happy... but as it stands my bald S03s cant even help me much from 75. |
if you dont want to spin, grab a set of RA1's and call it a day. If you want a street tire, they will all spin given your torque levels
S03's grip no worse nor better in wet or dry on the Z...I have driven cars extensively with both As for weight......a PS2 ain't no lightweight either :) |
This is the reason i went with ps2...my sizes are 265/295-30-19.. they feel really planted but i can still spin them in 1st and they grab in second(na). im hopeing they hold up well with 400 at the wheels.
btw priceing between 18s and 19's is huge..with the sizes i was looking for i had choice of pirelli, contiental or ps2. i researched around and i was given quotes for $1600-1900 for ps2.i ended up getting them for $1500 shipped from chriss from dscnt tire. |
