I just put some 295 tires on my track wheels

I had my stock track wheels widen 2". 10.5 total. I'm using a 15mm spacer and NO rubbing issues.

Interesting, how did you have them widened?

weak 350z 11-12-2005 12:22 PM

I had them done at: http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/

Wow, is that safe? Very interesting. How much did they charge you for that? Why not just purchase wider aftermarket wheels?

Props for doing something different! :)

homiusang 11-12-2005 12:37 PM

wonder how much weight gained per wheel...

westpak 11-12-2005 12:42 PM

Wow that is scary, I wouldn't take the chance how many disclaimmers and releases did you have to sign for them.

+1

Exactly what i was thinking.

Give me a break guys, I bet the welds are 2-3x as strong as the rest of the wheels. In any case, I doubt that part of the wheel will be bearing much weight or feeling much stress.

The only concern I'd have is balance / weight distribution and such.

JisNis 11-12-2005 03:15 PM

:icon11: :icon11: Crazy.....

gringott 11-12-2005 03:18 PM

Good idea. Are you getting enough traction now? Do you have VDC?

Well the wheel is under various load, it is a pressure vessel as well as carrying loads from the road.

The only way I would have done something like that is if they would have gotten a sample of the same material and done a weld and tested it for strength as well as perfoming some non-destructive testing on the welds afterwards, xrays at a minimum to make sure of the integrity of the weld and there are no voids or cracks in the welds.

Also did they keep the heat affected area to a minimum while welding and did they heat treat the welded area afterwards.

There are many things to take into account when welding and specially a load bearing part, just think of a weld letting go at 100 MPH :icon11:

Not picking on you just making some points I think are valid if doing something like this.

zillinois 11-12-2005 04:26 PM

Pretty cool!

350Zteve 11-12-2005 10:05 PM

Looks good. I assume you're running longer wheels studs to compensate for those spacers. I wouldn't worry about the strength of the wheels, they've been doing that to wheels for ever and they know how to make them strong.

weak 350z 11-13-2005 01:14 AM

Supra and mustangs been doing this for years. If a 1000hp supra uses stock widen wheels, I don't think I will have a problem. I didn't sign any waivers. I just sent them the wheels. I am using H&R spacers. They are hub centric and come with longer studs. The cost of widening the wheels is $175 per wheel.

Its a 03 track vdc

weak 350z 11-13-2005 01:20 AM

Zexy,

I will be at the meet on the 19th. You can check them out for yourself.

zillinois 11-13-2005 03:26 AM

That's a great price, much cheaper than a good set of aftermarket wheels.

I was considering a 315 tire. It might just have the room.

i still stick by my comment that the huge stagger you are running with adversely affect handling, a 315 even more so.

what do you do with your car that needs a 315 rear? FI + drag?

weak, sweetttttttt,

i'm having this done this winter with a extra set of rears I just picked up. On my G I have H&R 25mm spacers & was going to go to 10 or maybe 10.5in like you. Im going to measure how much space I actually have behind my wheel.

I was going with 315's myself. Goodyear 315/35 r17. (ATI procharger here)

Nicely done mod.

good example of a "pioneer" mod(for 350z's that is) for others to learn by.
