18" HRE 845R's, Your opinion
 

Well I got them on last night. My buddy bought them for his RX7 but they didn't fit so he wants me to buy them. The clearcoat needs a little refreshening but I think they look pretty sick with the brushed finish option. Let me know what you all think, if I should get them or not.

The offsets look pretty good, so if you get a good price then I would go for it. What size are the tires? The sidewall looks too skinny which makes the wheel gap look huge.

The tires are 265-35-18's up front, and 285-35-18's in the rear. I think the offset is just right, plenty of clearance and I don't think I could go any wider in the rear with out rolling the fenders. Anybody have an idea of what a fair price would be? What would you pay (come with tire, Michelin Pilot Sport 60% tread left)? I plan on using some hotchkis springs to bring it down a bit.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with buying HREs. I own Volks and I would jump at the chance to buy some HREs for the same price as my volks with tires. There is literally no better wheel on the market. The wheels look good. Definitely drop the car a bit to make it look better. Those tire sizes are dead on what I would run with 18s though. As for price...that setup would probably run you in the neighborhood of $4000=-5000 new. I think $3000-3500 with tires is reasonable.

19's look better for HRE's IMO....

i'd get a brand new set of volk or bbs and new tires if i was going to spend over 3k. if you can take it under $2500, then it might be a good deal.

think of all the racing heritage (extensive testing and culture) that volk and bbs carry in japan and around the world as well. if you're going to spend big bucks like that, might as well go with a worthy brand.

hre's are nice, but not worth the price imo.

HRE'S are sick i wholesale them and i have a $hit load of them they are top quality and expensive.

You are WAY off base. HRE is one of the few "small" wheel companies that actually over engineers the crap out of their wheels. They cost you but you can be sure that what you get is the absolute best for your money bar none. I've personally seen the amount of R&D and testing that goes into EVERY wheel design from the "cheaper" 400 series to the 900 series. The stress test EVERY design beyond the limits 99.9% of us would ever even venture. Theres a reason why the high HP cars at the track run HREs. (Think Porsche, Vette, Viper, BMW, etc)

They look REALLY nice. I'm with everyone who's saying if you get a good price on them, go for it!

most of the high end cars i've seen run Champion wheels or BBS. i've seen a few guys run the c21's http://www.hrewheels.com/images/wheels/C21_lrg_a.jpg while the vast majority run either BBS or Champion wheels (thinking Porsche, BMW). the Vette/Viper guys i've seen run CCW. my experience has taught me that most guys who track their car go bang for the buck, even the viper/vette/bmw/porsche guys. and if they go for something high end, it's usually bbs magnesiums or something of the like.


for you to call me WAY off base is uncalled for. i simply stated that for the price, he could get something better. i already said hre's were nice, because truth is they are and i never implied they were cheap quality, but you can't compare them to RAYS, much less BBS (speaking with respect to motorsports heritage again). $1,430 for an 18x10.5 competition 3 piece wheel :rolleyes:

Those look AWESOME... Go for it, depending on the price, what is he asking? That makes all the difference in the world...

I was going to dinner when I saw these on an M3 in the lot the other day.
I decided not to eat that day to save money to get these.

UPDATE-- I decided not to go for these bad boys, I really want at least a 19", but my buddy is letting them go for $2500 with tire, Michelin Pilot Sports (40% tread, decent set). So if you all are interested let me know. Again he bought them for his RX7 but they were too big and I've decided to get some 19" Volk GT7's. So I am passing up a huge deal but I'm pickey and you won't find a nicer set of 18" wheels, the offset and look are perfect!

HRE's are the nicest wheel IMO and I'm having a set of C21 or C22 wheels custom built for my widebody. Looking at about 19x13 with a 6"+ lip. Probably going to have the center gold though.

Damn 19x13. Now that's wide. And here I thought my dad's 20x11 HREs were wide. Good job on going with the R19s cuz R20s are a pain to find tires for. IMO the C20 and C21 are classy looking while the C22 looks a little more sporty. So if you have or plan on getting a BBK I would get the C22. Again, just my opinion. HREs are awesome wheels eitherway.

I think you did the right thing. I think there are nicer HRE's in production. The "R" series are pretty nice. Rivet bolt patterns make the wheel have an overall more aggresive appearance also. I've owned my set of 547R's for a couple of years now. Haven't had any problems other than the factory clear coat. I will tell people never to order the clear coat option. It is an acrylic spray that allows maximum metal polished shine to be seen, but is applied very lightly and begins to peel after a year. I had to get my rims refinished with a powered coated clear coat. It is not as transparent as the original clear coat, but is much more durable.

Thanks, I just couldn't justify the wheels seeing as all along I wanted 19"s. And the clear just looked like crap. You would expect more from HRE but I guess it's a common issue. The 547R's are beautiful, how big is the rear lip on those? I'm still thinking Volk GT7's but a nice set of HRE's takes the cake.
