20's or 19's for better ride/performance?

I would like to get the Axis Penta wheels for my Z. My question is would it make a difference in the way that the car handles/drives and rides by getting the 20's over the 19's? I like the fact that the 20's have a larger lip then the 19's but at the same time I dont wanna over do it and put to large or a wheel and tire on that will hurt my performace. Is it going to hurt performace/drivabilty in anyway or am I alright with getting 20's over the 19's? Thanks

20's are overkill. Stick with the 19's. (my .02)

In general, the larger the wheel, the worse the ride and lower performance. Some od that can be tempered by going with lighter wheels and tires with a softer sidewall.

when i switched from stock 17's to 20's, i barely felt any difference...get 20's...they're not going to be any worse than 19's for performance or ride...the ride is slightly rougher than stock wheels, but its barely noticable...20's look better IMO, and unless you're taking your car to the track all the time (in which case even 19's would be severely retarded), you should be fine

Also, i've seen 20" pentas and they're PIMP!!!!

I would have to say go with the 20". I have a set of 20" axis pentas on my Z and the ride is still great..plus that 4" lip in the rear is sick and everyone loves it..PM me for details

Sent you a pm man, One last question about these wheels then, think theyd look alright on a black Z?

+1.

no need for 20s, I have 19" superrozza's with a 5 inch lip in the back and it looks great. Not to mention, the bigger the wheel, the harder it is to turn.

Well I am sure people have ade they're views but I think the 20's look better. I have 20 inch Axis Matrix wheels with 4 1/4 lip in rear and I get great compliments. My experience is that it rides smoother and my friends think so as well. I guess the tires might play into that as well.

Generally, 19 and 20 inch wheels are for looks not performance. Reason being that they are more heavy than 17 and 18 inch wheels. Sidewall height, say 35 vs 45 series is a trade-off. Some autocross racers prefer a fat sidewall for more flex.

Ok, well if It will barely if ever see a track do you think that 20's would be the route to go, or should I still stick with the 19's?

MoodDude Jul 6, 2006 12:14 PM

If you want performance - go with 17's or 18's. If you want looks then get what you want but 19's will perform better than 20's.
General rule of thumb is that a larger wheel is going to have worse perfomance. This is due to the unsprung weight and the interia. There are many threads about this so I don't want to explain it again.

20 ofcourse.

FrickU Jul 6, 2006 08:44 PM

18's and 19's for performance...Preferrably the 18's...Mood Dude is completely right, If you are looking to just bling around town then 20's but don't expect any good things from them on the track. I'm running 18's right now and i'm very satisfied

uhhh ofcourse 19s..

20's weigh barely more than 19's...and he's not going to track the car...20's are totally fine, and have no more problems than 19's...19's are even stupid as hell for the track...if you track your car all the time, you need lightweight 17's or maybe 18's...19's and 20's are for people who don't really go to the track...any real track guy has forged monoblock 17's or 18's

lowtempo Jul 7, 2006 09:49 AM

i vote for 20's.

superppwZ33 Jul 7, 2006 01:59 PM

i had to decide on 19 vs 20 couple of weeks ago .

i never track the car either.....but drive pretty aggressive:icon10:

so the rim purchase was purely for looks:icon38:

my only concern was running 30 profile tires cuz the roads here in nor cal are pretty bad....i had bent racing harts on my last car like twice:(

but to me 19's look too small on a z, so went for some 20's

i'm completely happy with them, the ride is about the same..... car feels a bit slower but i don't mind

so my vote is on 20's
