From "crappy" Bridgestones to Toyo T1-R's

After 17k fun miles on my 06 OEM Bridgestones...I finally decided to replace them with some Toyo T1-R's (same 18" sizes as stock). I was really hoping to see what this car is capable of with some better tires. I had T1-S's before on my 04 Z and thought they were just ok so I thought I'd post my views on this newer T1-R tire

So I'll start here by saying that they are even crappier than the T1-S. I feel like the tires are gonna come off if I take a corner too hard. These have got to have some of the softest sidewalls I've ever experienced. I seriously miss my shi11y Bridgestones. Sad part is I knew what I was getting into considering I've owned Toyo's before..its just that they were much easier to get a hold of and there was no wait.

Now there are some good aspects to the tires. For one they are about a million times quieter than the previous and they handle rain like a champ. The stock tires were just downright scary in rain but I always go slow anyhow when weather conditions aren't ideal.

Now I'm not saying don't buy these tires however if your only goal is to increase performance than you won't be happy with these...get the Bf Goodrich KDW 2. If you like a quieter ride with decent handling and great wet weather management than the Toyo's are for you but expect some strange flexible feeling during hard cornering. I'm sure I'll get used to it but that doesn't mean I want to.

Hope this helps anyone looking for some new tires

I currently have the kdw2's and i will be the first to tell you that these tires sidewalls suck as well...The dry and wet traction are both excellent but my car now leans from side to side like crazy...After installing the nismo s-tune suspension and sways with my stock bridgestones i was quite happy with the amount of body roll (relatively none) but now i have tons of it...I will not buy these tires again. Anybody know of any tires that have stiff sidewalls?

im happy with the sidewalls on my t1rs. compared to the bridgestones that came on it and the toyo proxes tpts (all season tire) these t1rs are awesome.

This is intresting. I had T1s first and Ithought the side wall sucked. They were to soft. I went with the T1r's now I found them to alot stiffer than the T1s. T1s = 1 ply sidewall T1r = 2 ply stock bridgestones = 3 ply. But my turbos tear them all apart...lol

I think it is hard to beat the performance of the stock bridgestones IMO.Its one of the few cars with stock tires I can say that about.Yes the wet traction sucks but overall Its probably the best tire you can buy if you want to stay with your stock wheels

Thats good to know for future reference. I only posted what I heard about the KDW2. I think I'm just gonna go with a higher quality bridgestone next time bc I really like the dry handling. Try out the bridgestone RE050's...they are supposed to be better than the RE040. They come stock on thr track and GT models

I have RE050As not in stock sizing and they remined me of the S0-3s that I had on my last car. I think they are a great tire. Not as good in the rain as they could be but the width could have a certain amount to do with that. They feel great in the dry very consistent when breaking free with a ver smoth trasition to over steer. Anyway I'd definately recommend them.

I actually love my T1R's. Ive gone from Yokohama AVS Sports to Pirelli P Zero Rosso Assimetrico to T1R's and the T1R by far feels the best. They even held up on the track.
