BFG KDW2's vs. Toyo T1R's for FI
 

Done my research, checked prices, etc. Basically the jist of the info I've gotten is that the BFGs are loud, however I see that they are prolly the grippiest non-drag radials available. I've read excellent things about the T1Rs too, but I've just had a bad experience with toyo's in the past.

I'm leaning towards the BFG's but I'm concerned with the noise (kinda, at this point I just want a grippy tire that'll work great with my adjusted camber/toe)

I'll be running 295/35 18s if that helps anyone any.

So......FI people, if you've had both, what do you prefer? Those with either tire now, let's hear ALL the specific personal cons you've experienced.

The only Toyo that I like is the RA1. I think that there are a lot of users out there with the T1R only because they are easy to get and a lot of the wheel sellers out there stock them regularly. I used to have the Goodyear GS-D3 and they were nice but very expensive. I have the BFG's now and like them just fine. I don't hear any excessive noise.

BFG's are not loud, I cant beleive people drive sports cars and complain about normal tire noise. I love the KDW2's, on my TN set-up I could hit it from a 1st gear 20mph roll in the summer and it would dead hook. That is with 285's and -2 degrees camber. Ive heard bad reviews on the Toyo specifically the weak sauce sidewalls, I wouldnt run those on my car.

Wow Consumer reports is crazy putting the T1-S's up above the Pirelli's and Bridgestone S03's. It also looks like they tested the older KDW's vs the newer KDW 2....

LOL @ david. :) I saw that review on countless threads you posted it in. :) While Consumer Reports is reputable, those tests aren't long term, they're all initial quality, and Consumer Reports is pretty heavily influenced now, heh.

Sounds like the BFG's are the way to go. Thanks for the info on the soft sidewall on the T1R's.....I've got Falken 451's now and I think they have a semi-soft sidewall......don't want anything the same or worse!

I would look at Tire Rack's user reviews and rankings of tires. Very comprehensive, and rated by drivers more like us vs. consumer reports.

I've had both the KDWs (not KDW2s) and I have T1Rs now.

I actually like the T1Rs a lot better. Better ride quality, absolutely no road noise and excellent wet handling. I do not know how they compare to KDW2s.

Also, please consider that I am not boosted and I am not much different than bone stock.

I've had both T1-R's (NA now) and T1-S (FI). Toyos suck for anything other than a really quiet ride with good wet traction. The T1-R's are supposedly stiffer than the T1-S but are still way tooo soft in the sidewalls, even in NA form. I haven't heard too many bad things about the BF-Goodrich KDW's. One person told they are also a bit soft in the sidewall albeit not nearly as much as the Toyo's. I was a huge fan of the stock Bridgestones bc the sidewalls were incredibly stiff although the wet traction suffered quite a bit. I've heard the RE050's are much better and still retain the sidewall stiffness as well as better wet traction. My next set will be the best of Bridgestones. The sidewall stiffness is what mainly attracts me. Maybe S03's? Hope that helps..

The only reason Consumer Reports likes the Toyo's is because of its quiet ride, good wet traction, and somewhat decent handling. The Toyo's will handle if you throw them into an acute turn however the tire does not inspire any confidence when doing so. In fact its pretty scary....the only reason they are soo popular is bc every vendor has them readily available...

BTW the KDW's were supposedly loud but the KDW2's aren't nearly as bad from my understanding

the KDW2's are the only BFG's on my list. I was leaning towards the Goodyears but I can't get any solid answers from FI owners as to their grip levels....plus they're pricey.

Are you referring to the F1 GS-D3? I've either heard that they were really good or really bad. All the reviews for that tire seem inconsistent. If you decide on them please let us know your thoughts..

I have 285/35/19's BFG KDW 2's and I can spin them pretty easily in first gear with my "stock" vortech setup... I personally thought they would grip better on dry and wet surfaces after reading all of these awesome reviews.... the tires are not loud though, and overall I'm satisfied with them

I went from the T1s's to the T1r's the t1r's are much better than the t1s. There is a nite and day difference between the two of them. The sidewalls on the t1r's are 2 ply. The stock re40 is 3 ply I'm not sure about the kdw 2. I've been running the toyos for a long time with no problems with 400+ rwhp.
