Wheels/Tires: I tried searching and couldn't find it
 

Sorry, I know this must be out there somewhere, but I couldn't find it with search.

Basically, the car got stolen and the rims went from "ugly but in good condition" to "get rid of them." The idiots didn't take the wheels, they just ****ed them up and left them on. There are chunks taken out of wheels and tires on two, very serious curb rash on the others. In any event, I've decided now would be a good time to purchase a set of 18's.

I'm looking at either 18x9.5 all around or 18x8 and 18x9.5 staggered. I have three questions:

1) Is there a benefit to staggering them. I know there was some talk about keeping them square as benefiting handling, but then I heard rumors that it made the car feel unstable at high speed. Wagwan? :confused:

2) what offset will I need to keep them in line with the fenders. (I'm pretty sure 18x9.5 +22 will work up front, but I'm not sure with the rears or an 8'' wheel in the front).

3) I was thinking of 275/35 (front) and 285/40? (rear). Will this mess up my VDC? Is there a better setup?

No. Some members go with a wider wheel in the rear. Some the same width all around.

A offset calculator is a great tool.

The rear tires are 35.5mm taller than the front. I don't like it.

According to the offset calculator, to get a 9.5 inch wheel square with the rear fender, it should have an offset of 5. That doesn't make sense to me.

Why not go with 275/35 front and 285/35 rear?

I ran it through the tire size calculator and you are correct. 285/35 rear fits; 285/40 rear does not. I also just looked in the Volk thread and saw yours which looks perfect at 285/35. Did you have to roll your fenders?

Also used that calculator and it looks like an 18x9.5 +12 would be close enough (backspace of 5.7" versus 6.6" to compensate for the 1" difference in wheel width).
