Stoptech-18x10 +24 Volk GT7's - insight needed
 

I've looked and looked but have not found a definitive answer for my question. Right now I have 19x8.5 (+23) and 19x9.5 (+24) Gunmetal Volk GT-7's with the Stoptech BBK at all corners. I'm looking to get a set of the Gunmetal GT-7's in 18's only for the rear so I can run a drag radial and get some traction (Built Greddy TT being finished up by Sharif).

Anyway, after searching it looks like an 18x10 or 18x10.5 (+24) would work and still fit over the BBK? Is that correct? (I have not been able to find if this set up will work with the stoptechs-18x10 +24 GT7's). Would the extra inch or so of rim just be wider on the inside part since the offset is staying the same?

Any help would be great. I just want to make sure the 18x10 or 18x10.5 +24 would fit over the BBK? I've PM'd several wheel vendors but unfortunately they have not been very helpful (other than to say that they can order the wheels). Problem is, none have said whether this set up is going to fit over the BBK. With the wheel going down to an 18, I'm wondering if the top edge of the spokes on the GT7 wheel would make contact with the caliper.

Anyone have this set up? Any insight would be awesome. Thanks.

i don't know about the brake kits, but dude, your ecu's gonna go NUTS with 19" in the front and 18" in the back.

might as well just go 18" all around.

Is this a pure drag set up? If so, why not just go with a cheaper/lighter wheel? If you want more street traction, I would move the 9.5 to the front and order 19 x 10.5 for the rear.

14" rotors? Most 18's will clear, but I can't specifically say that the GT-7's will.

Tire size is what's important, not wheel size. I did some drag runs with 19's on the front and 17's on the rear. Reverse stagger FTW.

I want to stay with an 18 inch GT7 and mount a drag radial to them. I'll run the 18's on weekends and put my 19's back on during the week when I'm just driving to work, the store, etc. The 18's and DR needed for weekend call outs by my domestic friends. =) No one makes a 19 inch DR right now :(

Yes, I have 14.1 inch rotors on the back. I have seen that many 18 inch wheels will fit over the stoptech BBK, but I have not yet seen anything specific on the GT7 wheel/offset.

I don't think I'll have an issue with the ecu. I went with a HKS F-Con. :D Regardless, although the wheel will be 1 inch smaller, the sidewall on my drag radial will probably be 1 inch bigger than my 19 inch street tire, balancing it out.

It will fit. 18x10.0 +24 (B-disk) will definately clear but you only get 88mm lip. However, I would choose 18x10.0 +25 (C-disk) as you will get a 100mm lip!

Right now with my 19x9.5 +24's I can maybe fit a couple sheets of paper between the wheel spokes and the caliper. I imagine it would stay the same if I went with an 18x10 +24 but I just wasnt sure if the rounding in of the spoke at the top would now come in contact with the caliper if dropping an inch. Sorry for the question if it is dumb, but if I went with the +25 would that move the spokes closer to the caliper (thus probably hitting it now) or further away (giving more clearance from the caliper)? Do you know where I could get a set of these in gunmetal quick? Thanks again.

+25 v +24, +25 is closer. +24 is pushed out farther from the hub.

It's not about the offset, its about whether or not the wheel is a low/mid/high disk.

For example, I can make you an 18x10 +24 mid disk or 18x10 +24 low disk wheel and there will be a 10mm difference in clearance from mid-low.

So regarding your GT7's. 18x10.0 +25 is a low disk just like your 19x9.5 +24. Same amount of caliper clearance. 18x10.0 +24 is a mid disk but you will lose some lip size because it has a thicker mounting surface.

Why do you care about lip size / appearance on a drag setup anyway?

That is a great write up and I really appreciate all your help bro. I think I'm going to go with the 18x10 +24 just to allow a little more room away from the caliper. Even with the 18x10 +24 i'll still have a 3.5 inch lip :) Thanks again.

Thanks, but if TF does have them in stock......the wheels they have are the wrong offset. At one time, they did have 18x10's but they were a +17 offset requiring a fender roll or cut cuz the wheel is pushed farther outside.

I dont have these wheels in stock, it would have to be special ordered. 60-90 days.
