Drag Radials on Stock 17's for the track????

Here's my issue... I hate wasting my expensive 19" tires whenever I go to the drag strip. Also, after recently adding my turbo, I have some traction issues, also. So, I'm wondering how to go about addressing this.

Would you recommend throwing some 17" drag radials on the stock wheels that are sitting in the garage?

If so, what size? keeping in mind my car has an extremely low ride height with stock wheels on!

In the long run, I will likely sell/trade my Gold SF Challenges for an 18" wheel (Advan RGII's in gold) and permanently run a drag radial in the rear... but I can't seem to sell my wheels for what that would cost right now and can't find anyone with those wheels that want to trade... so I want a temporary fix!

Any insight would be appreciated!

With the stock 17" wheels, you are limited with your wheels size choices. You really cant go too wide. You could try a set of Nitto NT555R's, or a set of T1R's.

If these are just for the track, it wouldnt be a bad idea. The wheels are not that light though, and again you wont be able to go that wide. Finding a set of FNOR1C's wouldnt be bad. Im in the same perdicament myself.

yeh.... i figured the weight of the stock 17"s would be a drawback

Like a pound difference in weight between those 2. Stock 17 on my scale was 23 pounds a a 17 in zigen weighs like 21.5 to 22. I had some nitto 245/45/17 on the stock 17 worked ok.

how was your ride heighth with those nittos? i'm mainly concerned with rubbing issues because my car looked SLAMMED when i switched out to my stock wheels and tires for the winner months with the tanabe springs i have. i didn't have any rubbing issues with the stock tire sizes, but there definately wasn't much room to spare!

I might put a 245 mm drag radial on the 17 inch wheel with a naturally aspirated engine. For forced induction, members are running 275 mm plus.

Just out of curiosity have you posted time slips here: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=233840?

17" FNOR1C only weigh about 16-17lbs if Im not mistaken. Those would be the ones that I am mentioning.

Look here:

So even at 18lbs a piece, that would make them atleast 5lbs lighter then the stock wheels.

If you want a good DR, I would suggest going with the BFG's DR. You could run up to a 275. I ran 1.7 60ft with these tires. I don't recommend driving around with DR for everyday driving, as they handle like crap and make alot of noise (road and little rocks). If your serious about drag racing I would invest in a 16"'' wheel and run MT ET's slicks.
